Police Officer Arrested In Wife's Fatal Shooting

Deputy Superintendent Thasapong, known as Muan O, a deputy superintendent at Bang Lamung Police Station in Chon Buri, shot and killed his wife, a kindergarten teacher at a school in Bang Lamung District, on September 10. After the shooting, he barricaded himself in a police residence for nearly 20 hours before surrendering in the morning. At 2 p.m., investigators interrogated him at Bang Lamung Police Station for six hours, with family members and his son present throughout. He was formally charged with premeditated murder, illegal possession of a firearm in a town or public area without authorization, and firing a weapon containing explosive material in a town, village, or public gathering place.
Police then transported him to the fingerprinting room, where he appeared tense and kept his head down, with a gray towel covering his head. He will be sent to Pattaya Provincial Court for detention. A severe disciplinary investigation committee will be established in accordance with regulations and law. At 3:15 p.m., police escorted him to a vehicle bound for Pattaya Provincial Court. When journalists attempted to question him, he remained silent and appeared visibly stressed with his head bowed.
Bang Lamung Police Station Commander Sarawut Nuchnaroth stated that the operation was complete with no casualties. According to the investigation, the incident stemmed from jealousy, but declined to disclose further details as it was a family matter. He noted that Muan O had no prior history of problems or violence with colleagues. Going forward, supervisors will monitor subordinates for personal and family issues to prevent future violence. At 1:30 p.m., rescue workers from Saeng Borirun Dharmastan Foundation transferred the body of 48-year-old Pailin, a kindergarten teacher known as Khru Poel, to the Institute of Forensic Medicine at Police Hospital for detailed autopsy and ballistics examination. The family has not yet decided on funeral arrangements and is still discussing within the family.
