Legislator Clarifies Election Commission Acronym Amid Budget Debate
A Pheu Thai MP clarified his use of an Election Commission acronym during budget debates, opposing a 600-million-baht cut and arguing the agency needs resources to tackle electoral violations.
Dr. Wayo Aswagul, a Pheu Thai list MP, addressed the parliamentary budget committee on September 10 during deliberations on the 3.78-trillion-baht fiscal 2570 budget. He clarified that his earlier use of the acronym 'GKTHRK' was misunderstood—clips circulating online falsely claimed he had said 'eat noodles with six people,' allegedly due to a microphone malfunction. In reality, he explained, the acronym stands for 'the Election Commission of Justice, Love, and Loyalty to Nation, Religion, and the Monarchy'. Wayo opposed a proposed 600-million-baht budget reduction to the Election Commission, arguing the agency needs adequate resources to employ investigators, auditors, and prosecutors for election-related cases. He highlighted the Commission's recent successes, including prosecuting vote-buying via LINE chat evidence and other electoral violations. Despite acknowledging that 4.7 million baht budgeted for training and workshops seemed modest, Wayo noted it had already produced over 100 investigators for the Commission and 150 regional staff, and urged the committee not to further constrain the agency's operations.
