TV Host Nat Shocked by Monk's 92-Million Baht Temple Theft
Former Putthaisawan Temple abbot Tit Chote has been arrested for allegedly embezzling 92 million baht, shocking TV host Nat who had known the monk for 24 years and visited him the day before the scandal broke.
Police have arrested Tit Chote, the former abbot of Putthaisawan Temple in Ayutthaya province, following allegations that he embezzled 92 million baht from the temple and was involved in inappropriate conduct with a close associate. At a media appearance on September 10, TV personality Natthat Chaiyavachirasakdi, known as Nat Fanpantrue, revealed he has known the monk for 24 years since 2002 and visited the temple the morning before to seek spiritual guidance. During their conversation, the monk shared teachings about the meanings of misfortune and wealth that Nat found valuable and wanted to record for public distribution.
Nat discussed the high value of amulets associated with the monk, particularly rare pieces selling for up to 10 million baht, noting that the scandal may temporarily reduce prices but ultimately serves as a test of devotees' genuine faith. He expressed deep shock and sadness at the revelations, describing the monk as a respected teacher and father figure, comparing the betrayal to learning that someone you love and respect has committed wrongdoing.
Regarding an associate seen with the monk in leaked footage, Nat said he had seen the person at the temple helping with monastery work but never questioned their relationship or harbored suspicions. He emphasized that his faith was absolute and that he gave the monk the benefit of the doubt in all matters. Despite the scandal, Nat stated he would still pay respects to the monk if they met again, viewing the situation as a personal failure the monk must answer for himself.
