A family of three in Ku Mueang district, Buriram province, faces extreme poverty: the father, Suphan, 48, is bedridden with terminal liver cancer; the mother, Nai, 45, works odd jobs; and their 13-year-old daughter helps care for him. Nai said her older daughter, 18, lives with a family in Bangkok. Suphan has been unable to work for four years, and this year he became bedridden. Nai previously earned money by spraying pesticide in sugar cane fields, but the season has ended and the family has no income. The family attempted to obtain a poor person's card twice but was rejected because Suphan once owned a 1990 Toyota Mighty X pickup truck, which he sold 16 years ago but which still appears on record. Nai tearfully said she wants her daughter to attend secondary school, but cannot afford the expenses or any tuition. She appealed for donated adult diapers. Village headman Samphan Benchamas confirmed the rejections and noted that local government has offered limited help. Today, the Sawang Dharma Rescue Unit of Buriram delivered diapers, food, and rice to the family as immediate assistance.
