Police Seize 1.19 Million Meth Pills, Arrest Four in Lopburi Drug Bust
Police seized 1.19 million meth pills and arrested four traffickers in Lopburi after their vehicle crashed during a pursuit from Ubon Ratchathani to Bangkok.
Narcotics suppression police tracked a drug-trafficking gang transporting a large lot of methamphetamine from Ubon Ratchathani bound for Bangkok. The suspects only reached Lopburi before noticing they were being tailed; their sedan lost control and ran off the road, after which they fled into a grassy area in Moo 7, Nong Phak Waen subdistrict, Tha Luang district, Lopburi. Officers cordoned off the area for more than an hour and arrested Mr. Ong-art, 36, and Mr. Adiwan, 23, both from Kut Chum district, Yasothon province. Seized were three sacks containing 1,190,000 methamphetamine pills valued at approximately 23.8 million baht, found inside a black Mitsubishi sedan.
Another police team intercepted a pickup truck and apprehended two more gang members: Mr. Thitikorn, 23, the driver from Loeng Nok Tha district, Yasothon, and Mr. Thattaphan, 23, from Thai Charoen district, Yasothon. Both were taken in for further investigation.
Investigation revealed the group had collected four sacks of methamphetamine in Ubon Ratchathani and had already delivered one sack to a customer; the remaining three were en route to Bangkok. Mr. Ong-art had previously been convicted of drug trafficking, served his sentence, and after release, unable to find work, returned to the trade for a fee of 15,000 baht per run. All four suspects and the evidence were handed over to Pol. Lt. Col. Surakit Nantayo, deputy inspector (investigation) at Tha Luang Police Station, for legal proceedings.
