On October 25, 2026, Pol. Col. Noppasin Poolsawat, Deputy Commander of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, and Pol. Lt. Col. Pholsit Suthiat, Chief of Investigation Division 1, ordered Pol. Lt. Col. Suriyo Chaiyot, an investigator with Investigation Division 1, to lead a team arresting a group of five Vietnamese suspects selling 'Pod K' electronic cigarette pods mixed with narcotics. The raid at a condominium in the Pratu Nam area netted 3,200 pods worth over 5 million baht.
Acting on a tip that one suspect, known as 'Suea,' was distributing the pods to teenagers and tourists in Bangkok, undercover officers arranged to buy 3,000 pods with delivery set for the condo. On the evening of October 24, Suea arrived with two other Vietnamese nationals and directed an undercover officer by motorcycle to where the pods were stored, leading to the arrest of all suspects.
Preliminary field tests detected etomidate, a medical sedative used for anesthesia, which had been mixed into the vape liquid to create what is known as 'zombie cigarettes.' Officers expanded the search to a hotel in Pratu Nam where the group stayed, finding equipment for mixing vape liquid, raw etomidate, and tools for producing the pods. All evidence was seized and the five suspects were charged with jointly producing, importing, exporting, selling, or possessing Category 2 psychotropic substances without permission. They were handed over to investigators for further legal action.
