Police Seize 42 Motorcycles in Two-Night Illegal Racing Crackdown
Lom Sak police seized 42 motorcycles during a two-night crackdown on illegal street racing in Phetchabun province. The operation targeted groups organizing nighttime motorcycle races that sparked complaints from residents in the area.
Lom Sak police launched a crackdown on illegal street racers over two nights on Saturday and Sunday, sweeping the city to catch groups organizing motorcycle races and creating public disturbance. Officers seized 42 motorcycles in total.
The operation followed viral video clips showing large groups of teenagers performing motorcycle speed races near a go-kart track in Nam Chun subdistrict, Lom Sak district, Phetchabun province, causing noise complaints in the middle of the night. The riders then roamed the city along various routes before gathering to race near the Khok Nong Muang intersection.
On the nights of September 5 and 6, Deputy Police Lieutenant Colonel Theerarak Sarphuksitsan, superintendent of Lom Sak Police Station in Phetchabun province, coordinated officers to conduct simultaneous enforcement at racing hotspots. They arrested the riders and seized 42 motorcycles, filing charges including operating without vehicle registration documents, driving without a license, missing license plates, incomplete equipment, vehicle modifications, and illegal street racing.
Police emphasized they used cautious, non-aggressive methods despite some riders accelerating toward officers or making challenging gestures upon sight of police. After arrest, riders' records were documented, and vehicles were impounded for inspection. Repeat offenders and violations may face legal action against both riders and their parents, with vehicle confiscation proceeding according to legal authority and procedure rather than automatic seizure in all cases.
