Prince of Songkhla University's Faculty of Natural Resources has officially opened the 32nd Southern Region Agriculture Fair under the theme 'The Future of Thai Agriculture Amid Global Crisis,' with Chuan Leekpai, advisor to the university council, serving as the principal guest. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Niwatti Keawpradap, rector of the university, delivered the welcome remarks, and Assoc. Prof. Thawisak Niyombundit, dean of the Faculty of Natural Resources, provided a report on the event's background. The ceremony took place at the Faculty of Natural Resources, Hat Yai campus, on August 10, 2025.

This year's fair, running from August 8–19, operates under the theme 'The Future of Thai Agriculture Amid Global Crisis' and serves as an integrated platform for knowledge, research, technology, and modern innovation to help farmers and entrepreneurs overcome current challenges including climate change and food security.

Assoc. Prof. Thawisak Niyombundit, dean of the Faculty of Natural Resources, explained that the fair bridges academic research with commercial and farming communities by presenting research that addresses global crises. Key exhibition zones include: Smart Farming and BCG showcasing IoT agricultural systems, palm oil value-added products, and biochar; Aquatic Park 2026 featuring aquatic plants, biofloc systems, seahorse farming, and seaweed cultivation; Livestock and Animal Science BCG exhibitions with cattle, goats, and eco-friendly animal feed; agricultural product competitions including golden pillow durian, ruby pomelo, and jackfruit varieties; competitions for jade peafowl and broiler chickens; workshops on chili paste making, beeswax balm production, tissue culture, Google Earth for agricultural data, mushroom cultivation, and pest diagnosis; an academic conference on 'Innovation for Sustainable Agriculture' scheduled for August 13–14 at the Royal Jubilee International Convention Centre; and an exhibition of quality seedlings, safe agricultural products, and farming machinery from across Thailand. The 12-day fair invites visitors to explore products, shop, and stay updated on modern agricultural technologies.

On August 15, 2026, Lan Sak District narcotics police in Uthai Thani province responded to reports of a young man involved in drug use who had assaulted his grandmother, striking and kicking her while she lay in bed, and threatening to slit the throats of both his mother and grandmother if they sat together. Officers coordinated with local administration and found the suspect, identified as Komsan, 31, just waking up and smoking inside the house in Pradoo Yuean subdistrict. A body fluid test confirmed drug use. He was charged with assault causing harm to others and drug possession.

The grandmother, aged 81, and his mother, aged 53, filed a complaint at Lan Sak Police Station. When questioned, Komsan admitted to drug use but claimed he could not remember how many pills he had taken. He said he purchased the drugs from outside the area, originally intending to buy 30 pills but receiving only 2, which he admitted to consuming. He denied assaulting his grandmother, claiming he only verbally scolded her.

Komsan's mother stated that his grandmother suffered from confusion and memory loss, sometimes rambling at night, which she believed frustrated her son who complained of insomnia. She said he suddenly became angry and struck and kicked the grandmother in bed, and previously threatened to sit both her and his mother together before using a knife to slit their throats. She asked police to prosecute her son. Lan Sak Police and local administration provided dry rations to comfort the grandmother, who faces financial hardship and the trauma of this incident.

At 3 p.m. on August 15, 2025, a flash flood suddenly struck Mae Sa Waterfall in Mae Rim District, Chiang Mai, within Doi Suthep-Pui National Park, while multiple tourists were enjoying the water. A tourist captured video of the incident and posted it on Facebook under the account Arttie Martin, describing how officials had just blown a whistle before the rapid current swept away a swimmer. "It happened so fast," the post read.

Doi Suthep-Pui National Park staff immediately rushed to assist the tourist caught in the flood. Foreign tourists and male visitors also helped rescue an affected female tourist. Park officials and bystanders called for help as the current carried the swimmer downstream. Staff and other tourists managed to rescue the person and checked for any missing individuals. Red flags and ropes were put up around Mae Sa Waterfall to prevent tourists from swimming during this period.

Doi Suthep-Pui National Park reported that one tourist was swept by the flood and complained of pain and dizziness. Officials coordinated with Mae Rim Subdistrict Municipality to transport the victim to a hospital for further medical treatment.

Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Suphajee Suthammapun led a Commerce Ministry delegation to Samut Sakhon province on August 15, 2025, to monitor the establishment of fragrant coconut community networks at Ban Phraew Agricultural Cooperative. The visit included provincial officials, parliament members, and agricultural representatives to address long-standing issues affecting farmers.

Suphajee stated that the community network system is critical for strengthening farmer bargaining power. Thailand's fragrant coconut production has surged due to favorable climate conditions and expanded cultivation area, causing market prices to collapse to 2-3 baht per coconut at their lowest point. The ministry is implementing immediate measures including product absorption, market linkage, and business compliance checks.

Current prices have improved to 9-10.50 baht per coconut at farm gate and 10.50-12 baht for wholesalers as of August 14, 2025. The Agriculture Ministry forecasts 2025 production will reach 475 million coconuts, a 13 percent increase from 420 million in 2024.
