Running Out of Patience: Arne Slot Set to Leave Liverpool Next Season
Liverpool will not retain manager Arne Slot beyond next season after the club's board decided to part ways following poor results and talks with senior players despite £450 million in investment.
According to reports, Liverpool's board has decided not to retain manager Arne Slot for the next season following conversations with senior players last weekend. Slot's tenure has seen disappointing results this season despite over £450 million in investment, with Liverpool failing to win any major titles and still uncertain about qualifying for the UEFA Champions League. This poor performance has prompted Liverpool fans to call for the manager's departure, though the board had initially maintained confidence in Slot. However, freelance journalist Chris Roys has reported that the board has now decided to remove Slot from his position for the 2025-26 season. While Liverpool originally gave Slot additional time to salvage the situation, the decision to terminate his contract came following discussions with senior players over the past weekend. Reports also indicate that Liverpool's board is searching for a new head coach rather than a general manager, showing no interest in candidates like Xabi Alonso and has yet to decide on Slot's replacement. Meanwhile, football analyst Fabrizio Romano stated that Slot's performance will be evaluated at the end of the season, emphasizing that Liverpool's end-of-season assessment will involve players, management, and Slot himself. Currently, Liverpool has not approached any other potential managers, making this evaluation period crucial for the club's future direction.
