Samsung Enables Phone Tap for BTS, BRT, Chao Phraya Boat
Samsung has launched a feature allowing Samsung Galaxy phones to tap for rides on Bangkok's BTS, BRT, and Chao Phraya Express Boat, starting October 20, 2026. The service uses Samsung Wallet to store a virtual Rabbit Card and offers a promotional flat fare of 20 baht across all lines for 10,000 users. The initiative aims to simplify multi‑modal travel for Bangkok residents and commuters.
Samsung says the initiative stems from the daily routines of Bangkok residents, who often use multiple transport modes. The Bangkok metropolitan area has about 11 million residents and commuters, with over 4.5 million public transport trips per day, including an average of 1.43 million rail trips. Around 46% of rail users transfer at least once, while water transport sees about 70,000 daily passengers, highlighting the complexity of urban travel and payment systems. Sittichok Nopchinthut, President of Mobile Experience at Thai Samsung Electronics, said, 'Smartphones are with us almost all day; they should do more than just communicate. We developed Samsung Wallet to bring all travel essentials into one place.' Samsung Wallet is a secure digital wallet powered by Samsung Knox, protecting data with fingerprint recognition and encryption, and storing sensitive information in a separate secure area to guard against threats. It consolidates daily necessities on a single Galaxy device, accessible by swiping up. Features include using the phone as a digital car key for NFC and UWB-enabled vehicles such as BMW, MINI, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo, Lotus, Denza, and BYD models that support it; tapping to unlock home, condo, or office doors instead of employee cards; and accessing boarding passes, among others.
