A Grade 9 student at a secondary school in Bang Khu Wiang subdistrict, Bang Kruai district, suffered serious injuries after falling through an old tiled roof on 24 July 2026. The student climbed onto the roof during lunch break to retrieve earphones that had fallen there while he was on the phone with his mother. When he stepped on the roof, the fragile tiles collapsed under his weight, causing him to fall through and strike his head on a wooden plank below, resulting in a fractured neck and seizures. Emergency responders rushed him to hospital where he was admitted to the intensive care unit. Police superintendent Pol. Col. Phasakorn Chaitawiwong was alerted to the incident, and an inspection revealed a large hole in the roof connecting two school buildings with broken tiles and wood scattered across the area. The school has since warned students about the dangers of accessing rooftops and other potentially hazardous areas on campus.

BANGKOK — 24 July 2026, Thailand's women's water polo team defeated Japan 17-13 to claim the silver medal at the Asian Age Group Championships, boosting the aquatics chief's confidence ahead of a podium finish at the 2026 Asian Games.

The 2026 Asian Age Group Championships concluded at the Thammasat University Aquatic Centre in Rangsit, with the highlight of the final day of competition featuring the women's division, where the Thai squad—fielding nine players from its Asian Games training squad—faced a similarly prepared Japanese national team. Both teams entered the contest with identical records of four wins and one defeat, while China had already secured the gold medal after winning all six of its matches.

The winner of the Thailand-Japan clash would claim the silver medal, while the loser would receive bronze.

Thailand played with confidence in the opening period and raced to a 7-3 lead before extending its advantage to 10-4 by half-time. However, Japan rallied in the third quarter, narrowing the gap to 12-9. Thailand responded with disciplined defence and quick counter-attacks using long-ball passing after Israeli head coach Maxim Kordonskiy swiftly adjusted the team's tactics.

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has filed charges against Supaporn Pimpongse with the Economic Crime Suppression Division for submitting false share-holding and derivative transaction reports for directors, executives, auditors, and plan administrators (Form 59) and false securities acquisition or disposal reports (Form 246-2) to the SEC office. The SEC's investigation determined that Supaporn submitted four Form 59 reports covering four listed companies between June 27-28, 2569, and seven Form 246-2 reports covering six listed companies between June 30 and July 2, 2569. However, Supaporn never actually held shares or acquired or disposed of securities in any of these listed companies as claimed in the reports. Her actions constitute filing false documents with the SEC, violating Section 302/1 of the Securities and Exchange Act, B.E. 2535.

The SEC said it carefully monitored Supaporn's filings and took immediate action upon detecting irregularities. The commission removed her Form 59 data from the system when it discovered she was not a director, executive, or authorized reporting person. It marked the Form 246-2 reports as "preliminary information" on July 3, 2569, to alert investors. On July 7, the SEC changed the status to "under verification" while conducting deeper investigation. After confirming the inaccuracies with relevant parties, the SEC removed all reported data from its public database on July 8, 2569.

Enok Yueyuen, SEC Deputy Secretary-General and Spokesperson, stated that the SEC followed proper procedures and prioritized data accuracy for investor decision-making. The commission immediately flagged the Form 246-2 irregularities while conducting thorough evidence gathering before removing the data from the system. On July 10, 2569, the SEC coordinated with the Economic Crime Suppression Division to verify Supaporn's identity and request her statement, following due process of law. The SEC is now studying additional preventive measures in collaboration with relevant parties to strengthen confidence in capital market information.

At 4 p.m. on July 24 at Government House, Deputy Prime Minister Prakorn Nilpraphan briefed reporters on the fact-finding committee's investigation into fraud in the 2025 local government civil service recruitment exam (Round 3). He said the secretariat and working team have drafted a four-part report: (1) how position quotas were set and why final numbers exceeded the original request; (2) defects found in pre-exam procedures, the Terms of Reference, contractor agreements, and exam administration that diverged from standard Civil Service Commission practice; (3) whether exam documentation and procedures met standards of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation; and (4) how 8,000 requested positions became 10,000 approved appointments and whether this complied with law and policy. Prakorn stated that over 100 people from public and private sectors are linked to the process, though the committee will not declare anyone guilty—instead referring cases to relevant agencies for disciplinary, criminal, or administrative investigation. The panel will finalize its report by August 4 to recommend referrals to police, the Anti-Corruption Commission, the Comptroller's Office, and the Auditor General.
