A Grade 9 student at a secondary school in Bang Khu Wiang subdistrict, Bang Kruai district, suffered serious injuries after falling through an old tiled roof on 24 July 2026. The student climbed onto the roof during lunch break to retrieve earphones that had fallen there while he was on the phone with his mother. When he stepped on the roof, the fragile tiles collapsed under his weight, causing him to fall through and strike his head on a wooden plank below, resulting in a fractured neck and seizures. Emergency responders rushed him to hospital where he was admitted to the intensive care unit. Police superintendent Pol. Col. Phasakorn Chaitawiwong was alerted to the incident, and an inspection revealed a large hole in the roof connecting two school buildings with broken tiles and wood scattered across the area. The school has since warned students about the dangers of accessing rooftops and other potentially hazardous areas on campus.

Two Cambodian Men Arrested After Stalking Bangkok Resident

Two Cambodian men were arrested after allegedly stalking and attempting to force their way into a Bangkok home where a Thai woman was staying, leaving her traumatized and unwilling to return.

Two Cambodian Men Arrested After Stalking Bangkok Resident
24 Jul Khaosod

A 31-year-old Thai woman says she remains traumatised after two Cambodian men allegedly followed her to her home, attempted to force open her door and left her afraid to return home.

The woman, identified as May, met police investigators at Chana Songkhram Police Station on Thursday to give her account of the incident, which occurred around 11pm on 21 July. She said she had been drinking with friends and was walking back to the alley where she has lived for more than 30 years when she saw two men standing near a wall. At first, she thought they were people she knew, but realised they were strangers as she got closer.

She said she held onto her bag, turned on her phone camera to record the situation, and walked past them. The two men then allegedly called out, "Come have a beer with us," but she refused. Moments later, one of the men wearing a red shirt allegedly ran towards her, forcing her to run back to her house.

After locking the door, she said the man tried to reach through the metal bars of the gate, causing her to scream and threaten to call police before running upstairs. CCTV footage showed the two men leaving the front of the house before returning again while she was calling police. She said they attempted to open the door once more, forcing her to shout at them to leave.

After the incident, May posted about it on Instagram. A relative known as "Bank Talad Indy" shared the post and helped organise local residents to search for the suspects. The two men were located and detained on 23 July, with the first suspect found at a rented room before police and residents tracked down the second suspect.

May said the suspects apologised after being detained, but she told them: "I already told you not to do it." She said she has been suffering from anxiety since the incident, crying every night and refusing to sleep at her home. She has temporarily moved elsewhere and vowed to continue legal action against the two men.

"I do not want to see them again," she said.

Meanwhile, the girlfriend of the suspect in the red shirt, identified as Chanvesna Touch, 24, visited him at the police station and apologised to the victim on his behalf. Sinh Sinh, 23, said she had been in a relationship with Chanvesna for eight years and they have a 10-month-old daughter.

She said her boyfriend told her he had been drinking more than seven bottles of beer with Cambodian friends before the incident. He allegedly saw the woman walking by and called out to her before following her. After watching the CCTV footage, Sinh said she believed her boyfriend's actions were inappropriate and that the case should proceed through the legal system rather than through violence.

She said Chanvesna denied touching or assaulting the woman, claiming he returned to the house because he wanted to apologise after realising she was frightened. She also said the second man, who was wearing a white shirt, only followed him and did not speak to or approach the woman.

24 Jul Khaosod

BANGKOK — 24 July 2026, Thailand's women's water polo team defeated Japan 17-13 to claim the silver medal at the Asian Age Group Championships, boosting the aquatics chief's confidence ahead of a podium finish at the 2026 Asian Games.

The 2026 Asian Age Group Championships concluded at the Thammasat University Aquatic Centre in Rangsit, with the highlight of the final day of competition featuring the women's division, where the Thai squad—fielding nine players from its Asian Games training squad—faced a similarly prepared Japanese national team. Both teams entered the contest with identical records of four wins and one defeat, while China had already secured the gold medal after winning all six of its matches.

The winner of the Thailand-Japan clash would claim the silver medal, while the loser would receive bronze.

Thailand played with confidence in the opening period and raced to a 7-3 lead before extending its advantage to 10-4 by half-time. However, Japan rallied in the third quarter, narrowing the gap to 12-9. Thailand responded with disciplined defence and quick counter-attacks using long-ball passing after Israeli head coach Maxim Kordonskiy swiftly adjusted the team's tactics.

Thailand was also supported by an outstanding performance from goalkeeper Phanthila Asayut, the reigning Most Valuable Player of Israel's women's water polo league, who produced a series of crucial saves. Paranee Chotirojananont also impressed with superb lob shots, helping Thailand secure a 17-13 victory over Japan and the silver medal.

After the match, Kordonskiy praised his players for delivering one of their best performances. "It was an excellent competition for the youth division," he said. "Against Japan, we focused on keeping the team relaxed, and that allowed them to perform well. The final quarter changed the game because our defence became much stronger."

He added that the team still needed to improve in all areas ahead of the Asian Games.

Sueb Chaiya, chairman of the Water Polo Committee of the Aquatic Sports Association of Thailand, said the Thai women's victory over Japan to secure the silver medal had further strengthened the team's confidence, noting that the squad forms the core of Thailand's team for the upcoming Asian Games. "Our target is to finish among the top three at the Asian Games, and after this result we are confident we have a strong chance of achieving that goal," he said.

Thailand Urgently Negotiates U.S. Tariff Deal

Thailand Urgently Negotiates U.S. Tariff Deal
24 Jul Khaosod

At 4 p.m. on July 24, 2025, at Government House, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas briefed reporters on progress in U.S. tariff negotiations. He said he had just coordinated with Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Suphajee Suthummaphand, who is overseeing the matter, and that today he would meet with the private sector. Many Thai products have received tariff exemptions with minimal impact, but some items remain subject to duties and require discussion with business leaders.

Ekniti emphasized that the most critical factor is accelerating talks with the U.S., which has not closed the door to negotiations. Thailand has not yet reached a final trade agreement, unlike other countries that have secured a 10 percent tariff rate. Suphajee is pushing hard to achieve this. Ekniti believes that if negotiations move quickly and Thailand addresses U.S. concerns about forced labor by reforming labor practices and meeting international standards, the country can compete on equal footing with others and minimize overall economic impact.

When asked which industries need to prepare for changes, Ekniti deferred to provide more detailed information. He also said he would review the figures to clarify the broader economic impact on Thailand.

SEC Charges Woman With Filing False Share Disclosure Forms

A woman has been charged with submitting false share-disclosure and securities transaction reports to Thailand's SEC for multiple listed companies between June and July, despite never actually holding or trading shares in any of them.

SEC Charges Woman With Filing False Share Disclosure Forms
24 Jul Khaosod

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has filed charges against Supaporn Pimpongse with the Economic Crime Suppression Division for submitting false share-holding and derivative transaction reports for directors, executives, auditors, and plan administrators (Form 59) and false securities acquisition or disposal reports (Form 246-2) to the SEC office. The SEC's investigation determined that Supaporn submitted four Form 59 reports covering four listed companies between June 27-28, 2569, and seven Form 246-2 reports covering six listed companies between June 30 and July 2, 2569. However, Supaporn never actually held shares or acquired or disposed of securities in any of these listed companies as claimed in the reports. Her actions constitute filing false documents with the SEC, violating Section 302/1 of the Securities and Exchange Act, B.E. 2535.

The SEC said it carefully monitored Supaporn's filings and took immediate action upon detecting irregularities. The commission removed her Form 59 data from the system when it discovered she was not a director, executive, or authorized reporting person. It marked the Form 246-2 reports as "preliminary information" on July 3, 2569, to alert investors. On July 7, the SEC changed the status to "under verification" while conducting deeper investigation. After confirming the inaccuracies with relevant parties, the SEC removed all reported data from its public database on July 8, 2569.

Enok Yueyuen, SEC Deputy Secretary-General and Spokesperson, stated that the SEC followed proper procedures and prioritized data accuracy for investor decision-making. The commission immediately flagged the Form 246-2 irregularities while conducting thorough evidence gathering before removing the data from the system. On July 10, 2569, the SEC coordinated with the Economic Crime Suppression Division to verify Supaporn's identity and request her statement, following due process of law. The SEC is now studying additional preventive measures in collaboration with relevant parties to strengthen confidence in capital market information.

Thailand Has 108 Days of Oil Reserves Amid Price Volatility

Thailand maintains 108 days of oil reserves as the government cuts diesel prices by 2.40 baht per liter to shield consumers from global price volatility fueled by Middle East tensions.

Thailand Has 108 Days of Oil Reserves Amid Price Volatility
24 Jul Khaosod

Deputy Permanent Secretary Veeraphat Kiarttifuengfoo said the Energy Ministry is closely monitoring global oil prices, which continue to fluctuate due to economic and geopolitical factors affecting worldwide energy supply.

Thailand has taken precautions since Middle East unrest emerged, diversifying crude oil sources to include the United States and Argentina while increasing import volumes. As of July 23, 2025, Thailand's combined oil reserves—including commercial stock (2.353 billion liters), strategic reserves (3.385 billion liters), crude in transit (4.299 billion liters), and confirmed supply pending delivery (3.280 billion liters)—total 13.3 billion liters, providing 108 days of coverage. Current consumption averages 57.26 million liters of diesel and 30.36 million liters of petrol daily.

The government has ordered strict management to ensure fuel supplies meet public and business demand without shortage across all scenarios. On July 23, 2025, the Energy Policy Committee approved a refinery-gate price cut of 2.40 baht per liter for diesel effective July 24 to August 15, 2025. The Oil Fund, currently carrying a deficit of 63.921 billion baht, remains adequately liquid to manage prices at appropriate levels. Deputy Secretary Veeraphat stressed that the ministry will employ multiple measures—refinery-gate price reductions, the Oil Fund mechanism, and other necessary actions—to stabilize retail prices and minimize the impact on citizens' cost of living while continuously assessing global market conditions daily.

Investigation Wraps on Local Exam Cheating Scandal
24 Jul Khaosod

At 4 p.m. on July 24 at Government House, Deputy Prime Minister Prakorn Nilpraphan briefed reporters on the fact-finding committee's investigation into fraud in the 2025 local government civil service recruitment exam (Round 3). He said the secretariat and working team have drafted a four-part report: (1) how position quotas were set and why final numbers exceeded the original request; (2) defects found in pre-exam procedures, the Terms of Reference, contractor agreements, and exam administration that diverged from standard Civil Service Commission practice; (3) whether exam documentation and procedures met standards of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation; and (4) how 8,000 requested positions became 10,000 approved appointments and whether this complied with law and policy. Prakorn stated that over 100 people from public and private sectors are linked to the process, though the committee will not declare anyone guilty—instead referring cases to relevant agencies for disciplinary, criminal, or administrative investigation. The panel will finalize its report by August 4 to recommend referrals to police, the Anti-Corruption Commission, the Comptroller's Office, and the Auditor General. The investigation also includes financial flow tracing conducted by relevant authorities.

Thailand Shelves Landmark Bridge Project Over Economic, Environmental Concerns

Thailand has scrapped its ambitious Landbridge infrastructure project after a government committee found it economically unviable and environmentally risky, with shipping lines unlikely to use the route despite global trade disruptions. The

Thailand Shelves Landmark Bridge Project Over Economic, Environmental Concerns
24 Jul Khaosod

At 4 p.m. on July 24, 2025, Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Ekniti Nitivattanapong announced the findings of a committee studying the Landbridge project—a major infrastructure initiative designed to connect transport between the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea. The study, completed ahead of its 90-day deadline, was conducted by three separate working groups examining economic feasibility and investment potential, environmental impacts, and public consultation and stakeholder engagement.

Ekniti stated that the committee's conclusion was that the Landbridge project has low business viability and poses substantial budget and risk impacts. Global trade disruptions from Middle East tensions could turn projected positive returns negative, creating significant economic risk. Additionally, shipping lines are unlikely to shift operations to Thailand because major carriers already have established alliances. Management risks also include slow cargo movement logistics, resulting in low economic returns and overall high risk.

On environmental concerns, Ekniti noted the risks are considerable and require greater strategic oversight. Integration of environmental protections remains incomplete, failing to adequately address marine ecosystems, coastal community livelihoods, food security, and forest preservation. Public feedback was divided: private sector and manufacturing interests supported the project, while environmental and marine conservation groups opposed it, with most stakeholders expressing concern and indecision.

The committee concluded that while the project has low business potential and high environmental risk with ongoing public disagreement, private sector demand for a Andaman-side port access remains. The government will instead pursue development of Ranong Port to its full potential, explore railway connections to Ranong, and consider "missing link" rail infrastructure connecting northward to China and eastward ports.

On large-scale investment projects generally, the committee recommended that each country's strategic objectives be clarified before agencies conduct feasibility studies—treating this as a lesson for the future and emphasizing that environmental strategy and public consultation must be integrated from the start.

When asked if this constituted shelving the Landbridge project, Ekniti said: "You could say that." The deputy prime minister did not clarify whether cabinet approval of the study findings would be sought.
