The Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Army arrived in Narathiwat to launch an emergency strategic operation aimed at closing all security gaps and restoring safety and morale to military personnel and civilians in the region.

At 4:00 p.m. on July 24, 2025, at the Narathiwat Provincial Task Force headquarters, Kalayaniwattana Camp, Narathiwat Province, General Pana Karaewbua, Commander-in-Chief and Deputy Director of the National Security Council, chaired a meeting to review the security situation in Thailand's southern border provinces. The meeting followed the July 22 incident at Bo Ke Sami checkpoint that resulted in five ranger officers being killed in the line of duty and civilian injuries.

Senior regional commanders attended, including General Narutip Poyenok, Fourth Army Region Commander, and Police Lieutenant General Piyawat Chlemsri, Commander of Police Region 9, along with heads of relevant government, military, police and administrative agencies. They reported on the situation and outlined investigation procedures to pursue those responsible.

During the meeting, General Pana issued policies and directives to operational units in the southern border provinces, emphasizing that the unrest situation continues to pose multifaceted security threats requiring close monitoring. He stressed three key priorities to maximize security effectiveness:

1. Conduct After Action Reviews (AAR) to identify gaps: All units must thoroughly review both training exercises and actual operations to extract lessons from recent losses, correct deficiencies, close all security gaps, and improve performance across tactics, command, communication, coordination and support to handle any situation effectively.

2. Activate provincial task forces with seamless coordination: Provincial task forces, serving as the primary mechanism for driving security operations, must strengthen integration with police, local administration and the public, while continuously monitoring and evaluating performance to adapt plans to changing circumstances.

3. Report directly and resolve immediately without delays: All units must accelerate their assigned missions to achieve concrete results. Any problems, obstacles or issues must be promptly reported up the chain of command so they can be quickly resolved and supported.

At the conclusion, the Commander-in-Chief expressed encouragement and concern for all personnel performing duties in high-risk areas, describing the southern border mission as critically important to the nation, requiring sacrifice, determination and cooperation from all sectors. He instructed personnel to perform their duties responsibly, uphold correct principles, act promptly and carefully, and work together to build lasting safety, confidence and peace for the people in the region.

General Pana also blessed all personnel to carry out their mission safely, with strong morale and spirit, and to succeed in maintaining order and peace for the public.

On July 24, police in Ban Phai, Khon Kaen province, responded to a hospital report of a man who died from injuries sustained in an assault. Upon investigation at Ban Phai Hospital, officers found the body of Thawachchai, 58, with catastrophic injuries to the back of his head and skull—the result of repeated blows from a bamboo pole approximately 30 inches long that had fractured his skull and caused severe internal bleeding.

Initial inquiries revealed that the victim had quarreled with Abhichai, 51, who then attacked him with the bamboo pole multiple times. Neighbors heard the victim's cries for help, intervened to separate the two men, and rushed the victim to the hospital, where he later died. Police apprehended Abhichai at his home, where they found him resting in bed; he has not made a statement. According to villagers, Abhichai lives alone and is unemployed, frequently going door-to-door asking for money and food. The exact circumstances of why the victim came to Abhichai's house and the sequence of events leading to the fatal assault remain unclear. Authorities charged Abhichai with assault resulting in death and referred him to court for continued detention.

On July 24, 2025, the labor union of the state-owned National Telecom Company (NT) submitted a letter to the Prime Minister requesting that he initiate legal procedures to petition the King for Dr. Sorin Bunyabaichaipruk's removal as chairman of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) immediately due to disqualification.

The letter cited a unanimous 4-0 decision by the NBTC selection committee on July 23, 2025, which determined that Dr. Sorin lacked the required qualifications to serve as a NBTC commissioner. The disqualification stemmed from his continued employment as an hourly-paid physician at Mahidol University between January 8 and April 12, 2022, which violates Section 8(2) of the Broadcasting and Telecommunications Act of 2010 and its amendments.

The union stated that the selection committee reviewed documents from Mahidol University and Dr. Sorin's written explanation before concluding that hourly physician positions constitute state employment under institutional assignment and control, thereby violating legal prohibitions.

Although the law required disqualified individuals to sever prohibited ties within a specified timeframe, and despite Dr. Sorin submitting some evidence to the Senate president, he maintained state employee status until April 12, 2022, resulting in his disqualification from the NBTC position.

The union requested that the Prime Minister use legal authority to secure a royal decree removing Dr. Sorin from his NBTC chairmanship retroactively from the date he became ineligible. The union also asked that the matter be referred to the National Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate whether Dr. Sorin's continued service as NBTC chairman after being deemed ineligible constitutes misconduct.

Pattani police announced on July 24, 2569, the arrest of a major drug trafficking network and the seizure of 506,000 methamphetamine pills concealed in a hidden compartment behind the cab seat of a white Toyota pickup truck bearing Bangkok license plates. The drugs were valued at 30 million baht if successfully smuggled to a neighboring country.

Hassan confessed to smuggling drugs twice previously and earned 200,000 baht per trip. Authorities charged him under drug laws and seized his phone and vehicle while expanding the investigation to other network members.
