Severe Weather Warning: Storms North, Heavy Rain South Until Nov 9
Thai Meteorological Department warns of severe storms across upper Thailand Nov 5–7 and heavy rain in the South Nov 7–9, raising flood and landslide risks.
The Thai Meteorological Department announced on November 3, 2026 (BE 2569) its fifth advisory (No. 288/2569) covering unstable weather in upper Thailand and heavy to very heavy rain in the South, effective November 5–9. From November 5–7, upper Thailand will experience thunderstorms, strong gusts, hail, and isolated heavy rain, affecting the Northeast first, followed by the North, Central (including Bangkok and surrounding provinces), and Eastern regions. The public is warned against standing in open fields, under large trees, or near unstable billboards. From November 7–9, rainfall will intensify across the South with heavy to very heavy rain in many areas, increasing the risk of flash floods and mudslides, particularly in foothill zones near waterways and low-lying basins. This pattern is driven by a high-pressure system and a new cold air mass from China spreading over upper Thailand and the South China Sea, strengthening the easterly winds across Thailand and the Gulf. In thundery areas of the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand, waves are expected to exceed two meters; mariners should exercise extreme caution and avoid sailing in thunderstorms. The department advises the public to plan travel carefully, monitor updates continuously via the TMD website (www.tmd.go.th), hotline 0-2399-4012-13, or 1182 (24 hours). The next advisory will be issued on November 4 at 05:00.
