Sheffield Wednesday Gets New Owner with Takeover Complete – Avoids Next Season Points Deduction
US investment firm Aris Capital Partners has completed its takeover of Sheffield Wednesday, ending the club's administration and reversing a planned 15-point deduction for next season after the team's relegation to League One.
Sheffield Wednesday has officially confirmed that Aris Capital Partners, an investment group from the United States, has completed its takeover and become the club's new owner. The English club was previously owned by Thai businessman Dechapol Chansiri but faced serious financial difficulties and unpaid player and staff wages, requiring the club to enter administration. During the final Championship match on May 2, 2025, Sheffield Wednesday announced the news before their game against West Bromwich Albion, with fans giving a warm reception. The team won that match 2-1. This season, Sheffield Wednesday has accumulated an 18-point deduction, finishing with zero points across 46 matches and relegating to League One as bottom-placed team. The club was originally set to receive a 15-point deduction for next season, but this has been reversed as they have exited administration. The club's statement indicated: "The transaction has been completed following consultation with all stakeholders. The English Football League has determined that the 15-point penalty is no longer appropriate, and the club will therefore start next season with a clean slate of zero points as normal."
