Nongbua Pitchaya Wins CAS Appeal, Avoids 6.1M Baht Payout
Nongbua Pitchaya FC won a CAS appeal overturning a FIFA order to pay 6.1 million baht to a foreign player for alleged wrongful contract termination.
Thai League 2 club Nongbua Pitchaya FC has announced it won a legal dispute with a foreign player after the Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld its appeal and overturned the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber's ruling. The case originated when the club, formerly a top-flight side, was ordered by FIFA to pay damages to a foreign player for alleged wrongful contract termination, totaling about 6.1 million baht, due to missing a FIFA submission deadline — a situation that nearly led the club's management to dissolve the team. A second, similar case saw Nongbua submit documents on time, resulting in a FIFA decision in their favor and no 2 million baht payout. However, for the first case, Nongbua's legal team fought at CAS, submitting evidence of forged documents, and secured a ruling that annulled the original decision. The club issued an official statement informing fans and supporters of the important progress: the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) accepted Nongbua Pitchaya's appeal and ordered the withdrawal of the FIFA DRC ruling. As a result, the club is no longer liable for the more than 6.1 million baht compensation from the previous judgment. Nongbua Pitchaya FC thanked CAS, the Football Association of Thailand under Royal Patronage, the Lawyersoccer legal team, and all parties who cooperated to protect the club's legitimate rights and achieve this victory.
