Transport Ministry, Siriraj Plan Medical Park at Thonburi Station
The Ministry of Transport and Siriraj Hospital are collaborating to develop a 21-rai Medical Park on State Railway land near Thonburi Station. The project aims to expand medical capacity, create a holistic health hub with rehabilitation, wellness, and residential facilities, and position Thailand as an international medical center. A joint working committee will be formed to advance the plan.
The Ministry of Transport and Siriraj Hospital are launching a mega-project to develop a comprehensive medical center on State Railway of Thailand land near Thonburi Station. Today (November 5, 2026), Deputy Transport Minister Surapong Piyachote revealed he met with Professor Dr. Kearkiat Charoenwatana, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital; Associate Professor Dr. Ratthaphol Tuangthong, Deputy Dean for Student Affairs; Associate Professor Dr. Thira Kulladaroengkrai, Director of Siriraj Hospital; and Dr. Rawiwat Khanchalee, Deputy Managing Director of SRT Asset Co., Ltd., to define the concept and development direction for the Thonburi Station area — approximately 21 rai of State Railway of Thailand land.
The goal is to study feasibility for developing a comprehensive Medical Park to expand medical service capacity, meet rising healthcare demand, and advance toward an international-standard health center. Siriraj's Faculty of Medicine proposed a development direction comprising a Rehabilitation Center, a Wellness Center, and residential areas to create a holistic health service system covering treatment, rehabilitation, wellness promotion, and long-term quality of life. The model aims to serve both Thai citizens and international patients.
Currently, Siriraj Hospital faces space and capacity constraints due to high patient volumes and full utilization. The Siriraj network — including Siriraj Hospital, Siriraj Piyamaharajkarun Hospital, and the Kunchaphishek Medical Center — employs about 23,000 staff, necessitating plans to expand service capacity and develop areas for future medical missions. The Medical Park development represents a key pathway to extend Siriraj's medical expertise into comprehensive, internationally standardized health services.
The meeting also discussed maximizing the utility of State Railway land, considering Siriraj's space needs, project development models, and appropriate land management aligned with medical missions and relevant regulations. Moving forward, a joint working committee will be established among relevant agencies to jointly study and design the Thonburi Station area's utilization — covering development formats, land allocation for medical and health activities, and management and implementation approaches — to produce a practical, suitable development proposal. The key objective is to leverage state land assets for public health system benefits, increase public access to medical services, and support Thailand's advancement as an international medical and health hub.
