Deputy Transport Minister Sompetch Bunyamani and a Thai delegation visited InnoTrans 2026 at the Messe Berlin convention center in Germany to study Japanese rail technology and seek cooperation opportunities with JICA and leading Japanese rail operators. The delegation toured the Japanese Pavilion and met with Tokyo Metro, Hitachi, and JICA representatives to explore knowledge transfer, personnel development, and long-term railway system maintenance applicable to Thailand's rail networks.
JICA officials discussed multiple support frameworks for rail development, including technical cooperation, personnel training, technology transfer, low-interest financing, and public-private partnerships. Tokyo Metro shared experience in developing Bangkok's mass transit master plan and demonstrated real-time passenger density technology using AI-powered cameras to help passengers choose train cars and manage crowding.
The delegation also examined Hitachi's comprehensive rail systems including substations, tracks, trains, and operational technology. They studied a train model identical to those operating in Italy, reviewing design, interior technology, passenger amenities, and safety standards for potential application in Thailand's future rail development.
