Samut Prakan Province and the Royal Thai Navy launched 'Rattanakosin 112 The Musical: The Fortress of Glory and Mouth-of-River Naval Warfare' on September 23, 2026, at the Piyanavy Room of the Admiral Meklong Officers' Club at Phra Chulachomklao Fort. Provincial officials and Navy representatives announced the production, which uses contemporary musical theatre, music, songs, performances, lighting, colour, sound, and multimedia to retell the events of July 13, 1893—the Rattanakosin 112 Crisis—when Thai and French forces clashed at Phra Chulachomklao Fort and Phi Seua Samut Fort.
Sunthon Pansaengtong, governor of the Samut Prakan Provincial Administration Organization, noted that Samut Prakan, known as 'the river mouth city,' has been strategically vital to Thai history. The 1893 conflict demonstrated the courage and sacrifice of Thai ancestors defending national sovereignty. The organization created this project to help people and youth learn history in its authentic setting, instilling pride in their heritage and honouring the legacy of King Chulalongkorn and the Thai monarchy.
Rear Admiral Worawat Phumpattraphakul, director of the Naval Psychology Office and representative of the Navy Commander, expressed enthusiasm for supporting the event and opening Phra Chulachomklao Fort as a historical learning site. He emphasized that the fort is not only significant to the Navy but also stands as evidence of the courage of naval personnel and citizens who jointly defended the nation. Translating such stories through modern performance helps the public, especially youth, understand and access history more clearly.
Itsadachet Nakakate, district officer of Phra Samutjedi and provincial governor's representative, stressed that Samut Prakan has outstanding potential in economics, industry, transport, culture, and history. The Chao Phraya estuary region holds strategic importance as a frontier city and long-standing defensive position. This event conserves and promotes historical value while boosting heritage tourism and community economic development.
