Samut Prakan Hosts Grand River Battle Musical Production
A multimedia musical production premieres September 24-27 at Phra Chula Chomklao Fortress in Samut Prakan, featuring 14 original songs and elaborate light shows that dramatize a historic 1893 naval battle at the Chao Phraya River mouth. The
Samut Prakan Provincial Administration and the Royal Thai Navy present a multimedia musical spectacular titled "Year 112 The Musical: Fortress of Glory - Naval Battle of the River Mouth," reviving the history of naval warfare at the mouth of the Chao Phraya River through an elaborate light, colour, sound and multimedia production. The show runs September 24-27, 2026 at Phra Chula Chomklao Fortress in Samut Prakan province, promoting tourism and stimulating local economic development.
The production honours King Rama I and commemorates the courage of ancestors who sacrificed to protect national independence and sovereignty during the Year 112 crisis (1893), with the Chao Phraya estuary and Samut Prakan serving as key historical sites. The creative concept, "The past is our roots, the present is our branches," and "Leaving a name in the land," connects naval battles of the past with contemporary stories through family ties of national protectors, showing how patriotism and the spirit of national defence endure across generations despite changing times and technology.
The musical features over 14 newly composed songs performed by leading actors including Nikki-Nithidol Pom Suwannai as Chlin, Maki-Apa Pavilai as Manae, Ron-Pattraphon Toung as Chale, and Ja-Ja-Dandaw Yamabhai as Moey, alongside acclaimed performers Moo-Klaisen Atthaseri as Phraya Cholyuttayothin, Stephen Thomas as August Pavie, A-Suraphon Chao Pak Nam as Krom Muean Jetsadabodin, and Yha-Chariya Thanasawangkul as the Princess.
Directed by Rak-Satttha Satthatip and written and directed by Supawatr Hongsa, the production integrates performing arts, music, scenery, lights, colours, sound and high-definition multimedia to bring history to life in an accessible and moving way for audiences of all ages. The production unfolds at historically significant real locations including Royal Barge Mae Klang, Phra Chula Chomklao Fortress, and the Chao Phraya estuary, allowing viewers to experience naval history authentically and closely.
Beyond the musical performance, the event features a "Taste & Shop" activity with over 60 renowned restaurants, local shops, and Samut Prakan OTOP products, plus light tunnels, decorative pavilions and diverse photo-check-in spots. The public and tourists can enter from 3:00 PM onwards. Free admission.
