Soldier Shot Dead in Rangae Patrol Operation
A 32-year-old Thai ranger was shot and killed while setting up a patrol base in Rangae district, Narathiwat province on September 27, with authorities investigating the incident in Thailand's restive southern border region.
At 6:30 p.m. on September 27, 2025, a mobile ranger team from the 4515 Ranger Company, led by Sergeant Major Suphachai Raksasatya, came under fire while conducting a patrol and reconnaissance mission in Ban Kujingrupah village, Chalem subdistrict, Rangae district, Narathiwat province. The team was preparing to establish a patrol base when a gunshot rang out. Lance Corporal Sukran Latae, 32, a rifleman from the 4515 Ranger Company based in Sako subdistrict, Suhaipatani district, Narathiwat province, was struck in the chest below the left breast while removing his pack to set up the base. His teammates immediately provided first aid and evacuated him from the area, but the bullet had penetrated a vital organ and he died shortly after.
Following the incident, related units secured and inspected the area while increasing vigilance during operations to prevent further attacks. Authorities are collecting evidence and witness statements to establish facts and pursue the perpetrator through legal channels. Lance Corporal Sukran Latae is considered a personnel casualty killed in the line of duty in Thailand's southern border region, and his unit is proceeding with necessary procedures.
