Sports Authority Plans to Postpone National Games After Flood Damage
The Sports Authority of Thailand is meeting with Surin and Udon Thani provinces to discuss postponing the Youth, Senior, National, and Disabled National Games after flood damage destroyed sports equipment and bedding. The meeting on October 21 will determine new dates, with the goal of holding the events sometime in 2570. Authority officials say they will fast‑track equipment replacement while seeking input from athletes, parents, and sports associations.
The Sports Authority of Thailand said that heavy rain in late September 2569 caused flooding at the Huamark Stadium in Bangkok, damaging stored sports equipment and athletes’ bedding beyond repair. To ensure the four national tournaments – the Youth National Games (Surin Games), Senior National Games (Elephant City Games), National Games (Udon Thani Games), and Disabled National Games (Phu Phra Bat Games) – can proceed safely and effectively, new equipment must be procured, a process expected to take six to eight months. Authority Governor Pradporn Samanmit said the Authority is not ignoring the issue and will convene the meeting on October 21 to gather opinions on suitable new dates, emphasizing that the events will not be cancelled and will be held within 2570. She added that the Authority will expedite the procurement process while welcoming feedback from athletes, parents, provincial sports associations, and the National Sports Association.
