TransNusa Airlines Launches Jakarta–Bangkok Twice-Daily Service

TransNusa Airlines launched twice-daily direct flights between Jakarta and Bangkok on August 6, adding 2,500 inbound seats weekly as Thailand seeks to attract more Indonesian travelers through expanded air connectivity.

6 Aug TAT Newsroom

Bangkok, 6 August 2026 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) today welcomed TransNusa Airlines flight 8B381 from Jakarta on its inaugural arrival at Suvarnabhumi Airport, marking the successful launch of a new twice-daily direct service between the Indonesian and Thai capitals. The flight arrived at full capacity with 174 Indonesian passengers, signalling strong demand for the route.

The arriving passengers, including H.E. Mr. Hari Prabowo, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Thailand, who travelled on the inaugural flight, were warmly welcomed by Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, TAT Governor; Datuk Bernard Francis, Aviation Group Chief Executive Officer of TransNusa Airlines; Miss. Pranuengnuch Bamphensamai, Advisor and Acting Vice President, Customer Service Department, Suvarnabhumi Airport; Miss Pattaraanong Na Chiangmai, TAT Deputy Governor for International Marketing – Asia and South Pacific; TAT executives; and tourism partners. The reception featured a traditional Thai welcome and commemorative gift, reflecting Thailand’s warm hospitality.

“The new service reflects TAT’s Airline Focus strategy and supports the Thai Government’s Ease of Travelling policy by expanding air connectivity, making journeys within Southeast Asia more convenient,” Miss Thapanee said. “The additional capacity will help attract quality Indonesian travellers, particularly independent travellers, Muslim families and millennials, while advancing ‘Healing is the New Luxury’ through Thailand’s food, culture, wellness and diverse destination experiences.”

Operated with a 174-seat Airbus A320-200, the Jakarta–Bangkok service offers 14 flights per week, providing around 2,500 inbound seats weekly and more than 130,000 annually. Flights depart Jakarta at 08.20 and 16.40 Hrs., arriving in Bangkok at 11.45 and 19.55 Hrs. Return services depart Bangkok at 12.30 and 20.40 Hrs., arriving in Jakarta at 16.10 and 00.20 Hrs.

The route strengthens links between two major Southeast Asian business and tourism hubs while expanding access to Bangkok for Indonesian travellers. Driven by the strong appeal of Thai cuisine, shopping, culture, wellness and beauty, the twice-daily flights are expected to reinforce Thailand’s position as a preferred short-haul destination in the Indonesian market.

The launch builds on the separate Memorandums of Understanding signed by TAT with TransNusa Airlines and Traveloka on 4 August 2026, covering destination marketing, travel product development and stronger air links between Indonesia and Thailand. Under the TransNusa Airlines agreement, a direct Bali–Phuket service is planned for late 2026, supported by integrated marketing and public relations activities to raise destination visibility, expand route opportunities and reach Indonesian travellers more effectively.

From 1 January to 2 August 2026, Thailand welcomed 378,881 Indonesian visitors. They stayed an average of six days, with 85 per cent travelling independently and 53 per cent repeat visitors. Leading destinations included Bangkok, Songkhla, Chon Buri, Phuket and Krabi, while popular activities included Thai dining, historical attractions, community-based tourism, spa treatments and beach experiences.

Thailand's transport ministry is partnering with Tesla to advance electric vehicle technology and infrastructure, including knowledge-sharing on EV inspections and a national support program running through 2027.

Thailand Teams With Tesla on EV Technology and Clean Transport
6 Aug Khaosod

Transport Deputy Minister Siripong Angsukulkiart met with Ms. Hadri Haris, Lead Public Affairs for Tesla's Southeast Asia region, and Tesla representatives to exchange information and explore cooperation on Thailand's electric vehicle technology. The discussion included advisors and officials from the Ministry and Department of Land Transport.

Siripong revealed that the government backs a policy encouraging citizens to switch to electric vehicles (EVs) because they reduce travel costs and benefit the environment. The ministry is also pushing public transportation to shift to electric forms—minibuses, taxis, trucks, and rail systems—through regulatory updates, standard development, and the EV 3.5 support program (2024–2027) to strengthen confidence in Thailand's EV industry.

The ministry also discussed collaboration with Tesla engineers to exchange knowledge on EV inspection and related tools, which will guide the Department of Land Transport in developing staff expertise in safety-standard vehicle inspection. The department plans to coordinate with other companies to strengthen and enhance inspection capability.

Tesla presented its full range of products and technologies, including electric vehicles (Model 3, Model Y, Cybertruck, Semi, Robotaxi, Optimus), advanced driver assistance systems using End-to-End driving concepts, full self-driving capability, and Supercharger stations. Tesla also outlined its ecosystem concept linking EV technology, clean energy, and artificial intelligence to support carbon reduction, improve travel safety, and support Thailand's future EV industry development.

This discussion marks an important step in public-private cooperation to advance EV adoption and clean energy, building workforce capabilities to elevate Thailand's transport system with greater safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility while pursuing a concrete clean energy transition.

Ex-Local Administrator Theerutham Faces Six Criminal Charges

Former local administration chief Theerutham faces six criminal charges including breach of duty and document forgery in a rigged government recruitment exam scheme involving 13 suspects in Nonthaburi.

Ex-Local Administrator Theerutham Faces Six Criminal Charges
6 Aug Khaosod

On August 6, 2569, Deputy Commander Netiwit Thanasitthinitkul of the Corruption Suppression Unit announced progress in the corruption case involving a rigged local government employee recruitment exam. Thirteen suspects have been summoned to hear charges, divided into two groups: eleven local government officials accused of altering answer sheets at a Nonthaburi private company, and two senior officials—Theerutham Suphawibulphol, former director-general of the Department of Local Administration, and Assoc. Prof. Ruangdej Sirikij, director of the Education and Psychology Testing Office at Srinakharinwirot University.

For Theerutham and Assoc. Prof. Ruangdej, investigators have filed six charges including breach of duty, forging official documents, certifying false evidence, document destruction, and unauthorized disclosure of sealed documents. The eleven lower-level officials face charges under Article 188 of the Criminal Code and the Computer Crime Act.

As of the announcement, six suspects—including Theerutham, Assoc. Prof. Ruangdej, and four exam officials—had already been interviewed. The remaining seven local government officials were scheduled to meet investigators by August 10. Once questioning is complete, the case will be forwarded to the National Anti-Corruption Commission within August 12.

The suppression unit has also referred the case to the Anti-Money Laundering Office to investigate the financial records of all suspects for signs of suspicious wealth. If evidence of unusual enrichment is found, additional charges can be filed immediately. The Department of Local Administration has separately filed charges against Srinakharinwirot University and Assoc. Prof. Ruangdej on July 24 for creating and certifying false documents, which investigators say is linked to the main case and will be examined together.

Zoo Relocates Giant Gharial in Daring Operation
6 Aug Khaosod

On August 6, Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo executed a high-risk relocation of "Pharaoh," a massive gharial (fish-eating crocodile) measuring over 4.52 meters in length, to a temporary display pool beside the zoo's conference center. The operation concluded successfully and smoothly thanks to the expertise of the veterinary team, animal keepers, and the Kraitong team, who maintained strict adherence to the highest animal welfare standards throughout every step. The facility's original location is undergoing renovation and redesign.

The mission presented significant challenges because gharials, like all crocodiles, possess strong defensive instincts and typically display aggressive behavior by spinning or rolling violently when they sense a threat—actions that can cause serious injury or death to both the animal and personnel. Dozens of officials and expert handlers therefore employed specialized animal control techniques, using precise positioning and strategic weight distribution at safe anatomical points to neutralize the gharial's powerful spinning force. The operation was completed flawlessly, with both "Pharaoh" and every team member remaining 100% safe, showcasing the true professionalism of Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo's staff.

Official's Makeup Viral, Defends 10-Year Look
6 Aug Khaosod

A Zoom meeting screenshot from August 3 featuring Pattani's Patae Subdistrict Municipality staff discussing the 2570 fiscal budget sparked a social media frenzy after being posted to the municipality's Facebook page. The image attracted millions of views, likes, and shares, largely because of the striking makeup worn by one female official in the meeting.

On August 6, journalists met with Ms. Tasneem Thapkam, Acting Head of Administration at Patae Subdistrict Municipality Office in Yaha District, Yala Province. She maintains her distinctive makeup style throughout her regular duties with a consistent smile.

Ms. Tasneem explained that she was responsible for handling public relations that day, noting that image brightness was adjusted to reduce visible wrinkles before publication. She admitted being surprised by the scale of social media attention and the numerous comments—both positive and critical about various facial features. She responded by asking people to direct personal comments to her private Facebook account rather than the official municipal page to protect its reputation.

Regarding her makeup style, Ms. Tasneem stated it has been a personal preference for over 10 years, since the mascara fashion trend emerged. She applies makeup every morning before work as part of her routine, saying it boosts her confidence and creates a refreshing atmosphere for community interactions and colleague relationships. She takes breaks only on weekends.

Addressing social media users, Ms. Tasneem appealed for people to focus on work output, dedication, and commitment to public service rather than outward appearance, encouraging constructive engagement with government agencies' social media pages.

Patae Subdistrict Clerk Bunchai Dilaertpibulyn confirmed that Ms. Tasneem is a dedicated official with outstanding performance in academic work, elections administration—earning recognition from Yala Provincial Election Commission—and security system improvements. He noted that her clothing and makeup style were known to everyone from her first day of work. Mayor Amsar Srisombat has always emphasized staff should work with mutual respect and dignity.
