On August 6, Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo executed a high-risk relocation of "Pharaoh," a massive gharial (fish-eating crocodile) measuring over 4.52 meters in length, to a temporary display pool beside the zoo's conference center. The operation concluded successfully and smoothly thanks to the expertise of the veterinary team, animal keepers, and the Kraitong team, who maintained strict adherence to the highest animal welfare standards throughout every step. The facility's original location is undergoing renovation and redesign.
The mission presented significant challenges because gharials, like all crocodiles, possess strong defensive instincts and typically display aggressive behavior by spinning or rolling violently when they sense a threat—actions that can cause serious injury or death to both the animal and personnel. Dozens of officials and expert handlers therefore employed specialized animal control techniques, using precise positioning and strategic weight distribution at safe anatomical points to neutralize the gharial's powerful spinning force. The operation was completed flawlessly, with both "Pharaoh" and every team member remaining 100% safe, showcasing the true professionalism of Nakhon Ratchasima Zoo's staff.
