A 17-year-old boy helping his mother set up lights at a market was electrocuted, fell, and hit his head on wet ground, leaving his body paralyzed. Rescue workers rushed him to the hospital.
On October 20 at 6:30 p.m., rescuers from Buddhachon Hospital in Chachoengsao responded to a report of a severe electric shock at a flea market near the PTT Ban Mai gas station in Mueang Chachoengsao district. They found the teenager, identified only as Chal, conscious but unable to move his body, especially his right arm.
Chal said he was helping his mother set up lighting. As he prepared to screw a rotating light bulb into a socket, he was shocked and thrown backward, hitting his head on the ground. The ground was wet, muddy soil with puddles from earlier rain. He did not realize the wet ground could cause a short circuit while he was still holding the plugged-in wire, or that he might have accidentally touched the socket terminals. Rescue workers immediately transported him to the hospital for urgent treatment because he could not move.
