Prime Minister Anutin Meets Temasek Trust on Clean Energy, Health
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul met with Temasek Trust CEO Desmond Kuek to discuss clean energy, public health and philanthropic cooperation. The talks covered renewable energy expansion, small modular reactors, trilateral energy links with Malaysia and Singapore, and preparedness for future health crises. Both sides agreed to develop joint projects that deliver sustainable, scalable benefits.
During the meeting, both sides discussed pathways to transition to clean energy, increase the share of renewable power, and evaluate the potential of small modular reactors (SMRs) to cut greenhouse‑gas emissions. The Prime Minister stressed that Thailand’s energy policy must suit the national context, promote clean energy and make the best use of existing resources, while also addressing safety, waste management and public acceptance through clear communication and appropriate outreach. He also floated the idea of a trilateral energy partnership among Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore, leveraging Thailand’s renewable‑energy potential and land, Malaysia’s resources and infrastructure, and Singapore’s financing and investment capacity to build a regional power network and enhance long‑term energy security, alongside cross‑border infrastructure and supply chains. Regarding future industries, the Prime Minister noted that investments in data centres and AI‑supporting infrastructure need to balance growth with adequate resource management, urging the private sector to develop responsible infrastructure and energy use so economic expansion goes hand in hand with environmental stewardship and social welfare. On public health, the talks covered readiness for emerging pandemics, development of diagnostic and surveillance systems, and expanding domestic production of essential medical equipment and supplies to strengthen the country’s regional capacity to handle health crises. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of financial and health‑service preparedness to lessen the impact and burden on the health system when outbreaks occur, and pledged support for refining health‑care approaches.
