Thai GI Products Highlighted at Singapore Expo During National Day
Thai officials and GI producers visited Singapore during its 61st National Day celebrations to showcase Thai products at the APAC Food & Beverage Expo 2026. The delegation explored landmarks such as Mustafa Centre, Orchard Road, the Pan Pacific Orchard hotel’s vertical gardens, and historic sites like the bronze elephant at The Arts House and St. Andrew’s Cathedral. They also sampled local cuisine, including frog porridge, chili crab and Thai‑style chicken rice, highlighting both tourism and trade opportunities.
During the visit, the delegation stopped at Mustafa Centre in Little India, a 24‑hour marketplace where spices, snacks, clothing, cosmetics and electronics create an atmosphere reminiscent of India, reflecting Singapore’s multicultural makeup. They then walked along Orchard Road, the city’s famous shopping boulevard, where the Thai Embassy stands as a ‘Thai space’ among global brands and hotels. Nearby, the Pan Pacific Orchard hotel showcases vertical greenery across four terraces—Forest, Beach, Garden and Cloud—demonstrating how the city expands upward due to limited ground space; the hotel was designed by Singapore‑based WOHA, a pioneer of green skyscrapers and biophilic architecture.
At The Arts House, a bronze elephant gifted by King Chulalongkorn (Rama V) during his 1871 visit commemorates historic Thai‑Singaporean ties, while the nearby St. Andrew’s Cathedral, a Gothic‑style church over 160 years old, adds to the city’s architectural diversity. Marina Bay serves as the city’s iconic landmark.
Food was a highlight: the team sampled frog porridge at the long‑standing G7 Live Seafood & Frog Porridge in Geylang, enjoyed chili crab and salted‑egg crab, tried dim sum at Yum Cha, and dined at Jumbo Seafood, a restaurant that began as a small local outlet and has grown into an international chain renowned for its seafood. They also tasted Thai‑style chicken rice, declaring it the ultimate seafood‑free treat.
