Thai PM Courts 53 Australian Firms to Invest in Thailand
Thai PM Anutin hosts 53 Australian business executives in Sydney on August 18 to promote investment in Thailand, particularly seeking tech and specialized expertise rather than large capital inflows.
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul is pressing ahead with efforts to deepen Thailand-Australia economic relations by hosting a major business networking event in Sydney on 18 August 2025. The Board of Investment has invited 53 senior executives from leading Australian companies spanning technology, digital, agriculture, automotive, and education sectors to hear Thailand's investment promotion policies directly from the Prime Minister, building on strategic cooperation between the two nations.
Nurit Thetsathirasak, Secretary-General of the Board of Investment, revealed that while Australian investment in Thailand has historically been modest, the event represents a significant opportunity to expand future collaboration. He noted that rather than large-scale investments, Thailand is particularly interested in attracting specialized companies with expertise in systems development and advanced technology that can accelerate technological advancement in the country.
The Prime Minister will hold discussions and dine with business delegations from both nations to advance trade and investment cooperation further. The Thai business delegation accompanying the Prime Minister includes 21 senior executives from leading companies including B.Grimm Power, Ban Pu, Central Group, Frasers Property, PTT, Thai Racha Group, SuphalaiBKK, Thai Beverage, CPF, and SCG International, seeking business opportunities with Australian private sector counterparts.
According to Board of Investment data, from 2021 to mid-2025, Australian investors filed 93 investment promotion applications valued at 33.425 billion baht. Digital industry investments dominated at 13.833 billion baht (41%), followed by chemicals and petrochemicals at 6.936 billion baht (21%), and agriculture and food processing at 3.810 billion baht (11%). Though Australian investment in Thailand remains relatively small, its concentration in digital, technology, and strategic sectors where Thailand seeks advancement makes it a valuable channel for capital and expertise transfer.
