Thai Women's Tennis Hosts Switzerland in World Cup Playoff
Thailand's women's tennis team will host Switzerland in a Billie Jean King Cup World Group playoff on November 21-22 at a Bangkok venue, with the winner advancing to the world championship level for the first time in 12 years.
Suchai Pornchaisukdium, president of the Thai Lawn Tennis Association under Royal Patronage, announced that Thailand will host Switzerland in a World Group playoff for the 2026 Billie Jean King Cup on November 21-22 at the National Tennis Development Center in Muang Thong Thani, Nonthaburi.
"Thailand will host Switzerland's visit with a total of five matches—two singles matches on day one, and one doubles plus two singles matches on day two," Suchai said. "The winning team must secure three of five matches to advance to the World Group, while the losing team will remain in Group 1. The matches will be held on the center court, following major competitions such as the 2025 Southeast Asian Games and the Davis Cup, the men's world tennis championship."
The Thai women's team earned this playoff berth after winning the 2026 Billie Jean King Cup Asia/Oceania Zone 1 Group in New Delhi, India last April—Thailand's first World Group playoff appearance in 12 years. The championship-winning squad included Eve Patcharin Cheapchanya, Omsirin Anchisa Chantha, Tae Tharaiphot Nakhlor, Ert Piengthaar Polpuech, and Bua Kamolwan Yodpetch.
Puchong Laohasiriwong serves as team manager, assisted by Coach X Pocharpol Khamsaman, team captain and former coach of Thailand's previous World Group playoff team 12 years ago, along with sports scientist Nonthapath Fuengdech and physical therapist Nualpllan Chantim.
