Thailand Eyes Asian Crown After SEA V Cup Victory
Thailand's women's volleyball team won the SEA V Cup title with a dominant 3-0 victory over Vietnam, setting their sights on the Asian Championship in China next month where an Olympic berth is at stake.
Coach Ott Kiatphong, head coach of Thailand's national women's volleyball team, praised the team's hunger to win the Asian Championship after their dominant performance at the second leg of the 2026 SEA V Cup (BYD DMI 6th SEA V CUP 2026) held at Chiang Mai's 700-Year Stadium on August 9, 2026. Thailand's women's volleyball team defeated Vietnam 3-0 in sets with scores of 25-20, 25-10, and 25-15 in the final match, securing their third consecutive victory without dropping a single set and winning the tournament title.
After the match, Coach Ott stated that today's game was valuable and meaningful to everyone on the team. He expressed gratitude for the hard work and noted that the victory serves as good preparation for the upcoming Asian Championship. "At the Asian Championship, we need excellent physical condition and strong mental resilience because our opponents are very strong. We still have several areas to improve in the remaining 7-8 days. Personally, I'm impressed and pleased with all the athletes—they want to be champions, and we support them fully. But it's a very challenging and difficult goal that they want to achieve."
Thailand's next competition will be the 2026 Women's Asian Volleyball Championship in Tianjin, China, from August 21-30, 2026. The defending champion Thai team is placed in Group B alongside Kazakhstan, Indonesia, and Australia. The tournament winner will earn direct qualification to the Olympic Games.
