Thailand Hosts Successful IMF-World Bank 2026 Meeting in Bangkok
Thailand’s hosting of the IMF‑World Bank 2026 meeting in Bangkok drew over 19,000 attendees, surpassing targets by 27% and showcasing the nation’s soft power, thought leadership, and economic appeal. Assistant Minister Santithar Stetiyathai said the success reflects Thai capabilities when working together and will be used to attract investment and strengthen ties with global forums like Davos. The event featured Thai cuisine, textiles, and initiatives on AI, cybersecurity, and green energy, aiming to convert goodwill into tangible business opportunities.
He explained that Thailand’s success can be seen in three areas. First, as a host the world loved, the conference showcased Thai soft power through local food, fresh fruit, ice cream, traditional textiles, and cotton bags, with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva herself publicly supporting Thai silk, creating value that money cannot buy. Second, as a thought leader the world accepted, Thailand pushed forward initiatives such as Small AI for accessible artificial intelligence, the Bangkok Blueprint to combat online crime, and a green‑energy transition, positioning itself as a bridge between regions and a contributor to global policy discussions. Third, as an economic partner the world trusts, the government aims to turn the goodwill generated into concrete investment opportunities, using the conference as a springboard for business deals and long‑term tourism growth. Santithar stressed that the benefits must extend beyond the event’s image to real cooperation and economic returns.
