Thailand's Weather Bureau Issues Heavy Rain Alert for 39 Provinces
Thailand's meteorological agency warned 39 provinces of very heavy rain and potential flooding on July 30 as a monsoon trough and strong southwest winds bring dangerous weather to northern, eastern, and southern regions.
On July 30, 2569, the Thai Meteorological Department issued its 14th severe weather warning (141/2569) stating that the northern, eastern, and western southern regions will experience very heavy rain in some areas. The northeastern and central regions, Bangkok and its surrounding areas, and the eastern southern coast will see heavy rain in parts, caused by a monsoon trough crossing the north and northeast combined with a strong southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.
The public is warned to be vigilant against very heavy rainfall and accumulated rain that may cause sudden flooding and flash floods, especially in foothill areas near waterways and low-lying zones. The department reports today's weather will bring heavy rain to 39 provinces.
In the upper Andaman Sea, winds are moderately strong with waves 2–3 metres high, and over 3 metres in thunderstorm areas. The upper Gulf of Thailand and lower Andaman Sea have waves around 2 metres, exceeding 2 metres in thunderstorm zones. Fishermen in the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand are urged to navigate carefully and avoid thunderstorm areas; small boats in the upper Andaman Sea should refrain from leaving shore during this period.
The public is advised to plan activities and travel cautiously during this period. Updates are available at the Thai Meteorological Department website (http://www.tmd.go.th) or by calling 0-2399-4012-13 and 1182 around the clock. The next warning will be issued on July 30, 2569 at 5:00 PM.
