Thailand Prepares Air Traffic For Heavy Rain Oct 4-7
Thailand's Civil Aviation Authority is preparing for heavy rain and variable weather expected from Oct 4 to 7, coordinating with meteorological agencies, airports, and airlines to adjust air traffic management and minimize flight disruptions. Officials also highlighted flood relief efforts, distributing aid to affected communities while monitoring weather impacts on aviation.
Civil Aviation Authority monitors heavy rain nationwide, prepares contingency plans coordinating with the Meteorological Department, airports, and airlines to manage flights continuously and reduce passenger impact. Deputy Transport Minister Pattrapat Phatprasith said he received orders from Deputy Prime Minister and Transport Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakan to closely monitor storm and variable weather conditions from Oct 4–7 2026, thus instructing the State Enterprise Aeronautical Radio of Thailand Ltd. (AEROTHAI) to prepare proactive plans, assess impact on flight routes and airports in advance, and adjust air traffic management accordingly, coordinating continuously with the Meteorological Department, airports, airlines, and related agencies to ensure efficient and safe air navigation while minimizing impact on aircraft, passengers, and the public. The government and Transport Ministry also emphasize aid for flood-affected people, sending officials to distribute relief kits. AEROTHAI board member Panya Chunpanich added that the agency has prepared measures for variable weather affecting flight visibility and routes, closely monitoring aviation meteorology forecasts and real-time conditions to plan traffic management, including procedures for diversions, holding patterns, or alternate airports, managing traffic flow, adjusting routes, sequencing flights, and controlling density. In addition, the Authority has warned incoming flights at all airports to reserve fuel for possible delays and ordered nationwide flight control centers to increase vigilance in at‑risk areas, coordinate assistance for flooding or disrupted transport, and report to management. AEROTHAI urged travelers with flights scheduled Oct 4–7 to check flight status with their airlines before departure, allow extra travel time to the airport, and said it will monitor conditions and adjust plans to ensure safety and minimal impact.
