Bangkok Drains Water Ahead of Expected Heavy Rainfall Oct 10-11
Bangkok is stepping up drainage efforts in anticipation of heavy rain expected on October 5‑6 and especially October 10‑11, when up to 150 mm could fall. Officials said the Chao Phraya River remains within safe limits while mobile pumps are deployed across several districts and flood‑prone roads are monitored. The city is using weather data and public reports to target relief and keep main roads open.
Authorities reported that the Chao Phraya River at station C.13 was flowing at 2,500 cubic metres per second, with water levels expected to peak at +1.76 metres near the Royal Thai Navy headquarters at 20:42, while Bangkok’s flood defenses remained intact and unaffected by upstream water. Mobile pumping units have been deployed in Lat Krabang (Rommaklue 24), Sai Mai (Thanon Canal), Khlong Sam Wa (Theerawan Village and Phuket Charoen Village), and other districts. Areas still experiencing standing water requiring assistance include Saphan Sung (Siangthon Golden Village and Khaothani Village), Min Buri (Minburi Garden and Ramkhamhaeng 174, Bua Khao inner side), and Lat Krabang. The city is also draining water from retention areas such as Bung Si Kan and Hua Mak, maximizing flow through tunnels and Bueng Nong Bon, and using social‑media complaints from six districts to target rescue operations. Roads that are dry and passable include Phaya Suren, Suwinthawong (entire length), Si Buranukit, and Suan Siam. Minor flooding (5‑10 cm) allowing normal traffic is reported on Sai Mai Soi 27‑35, Bangkok‑Bangkhen Road Soi 13‑15 and 45‑55, Si Buranukit at Mueng Mina intersection to Chong Canal, Suwinthawong at Hati Rat intersection, and Ongnut Soi 57‑59. Moderate flooding (10‑20 cm) requiring caution affects Phahonyothin near Thupatemee Stadium to Phahonyothin Soi 60, Chalong Krung Canal sections, and Wong Saeng Chao sections. Deep flooding (20‑30 cm or more) where small vehicles should avoid includes Chao Kun Thon inbound and outbound, Chalong Krung from the motorway cut to the railway, Wong Saeng Chao in front of Lotus Lat Krabang, and Lat Krabang near the airport, the district office, Takhuk canal to King Kaew intersection, and Suvarnabhumi Airport junction.
