Rayong Residents Dump Waste Outside Municipality Over Uncollected Garbage
Angry residents of Rayong’s Choei Noi district have dumped huge piles of flood‑damaged garbage in front of the municipal office after garbage collection trucks failed to appear following recent floods. The rotting waste is producing a foul odor across the area, prompting protesters to demand swift action from local officials. They hope the visible demonstration will force the municipality to resume waste removal and alleviate their suffering.
On October 4, 2026, reporters covered the flood situation in Rayong Province, focusing on Choei Noi sub‑district in Mueang Rayong district, where severe hardship has arisen as several villages remain submerged. Residents have been cleaning up and salvaging damaged household items, hoping the Choei Noi Municipality’s garbage trucks would collect the waste, but no trucks arrived. The delay has caused flood‑soaked trash and ruined belongings to begin rotting, creating a nasty stench that aggravates locals. In response, villagers have gathered and dumped all the waste along Highway 36 in front of the old Choei Noi Municipal Office, forming a heap stretching about 300 meters. They aim to make the municipal leadership acknowledge their plight and act swiftly to resolve the issue. Srawut, a Choei Noi resident, said the flood has destroyed almost all household possessions, especially plywood and particle‑board furniture, which disintegrate when soaked, as well as bedding, blankets and mattresses that are now unusable. He added that it remains uncertain whether electrical appliances such as televisions, fans and refrigerators can be repaired after being submerged for a prolonged period.
