Thailand Warns Six Provinces at Risk of Landslides, Flash Floods
Thailand’s Department of Mineral Resources has warned that six provinces—Uthai Thani, Kanchanaburi, Suphan Buri, Ratchaburi, Phetchaburi, and Surat Thani—face heightened landslide and flash‑flood risks due to ongoing heavy rain. The Meteorological Department forecasts continued heavy rain across lower northern, central, eastern, and southern areas, raising the chance of sudden flooding. Volunteers and officials are urged to monitor conditions closely and respond quickly to any geohazard incidents.
The Department of Mineral Resources announced the names of provinces facing continuous heavy rain, which heightens the risk of landslides and flash floods, and asked local volunteer networks to monitor the situation closely. Dated October 16, 2069, the Geohazard Operations Center under the Environmental Geology Division of the Department of Mineral Resources, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, warned of landslide and flash flood risks because of persistent heavy rain in landslide‑prone zones and projected rainfall that could trigger landslides, especially in the six provinces of Uthai Thani, Kanchanaburi, Suphan Buri, Ratchaburi, Phetchaburi, and Surat Thani. The Meteorological Department’s 24‑hour forecast shows heavy rain in some areas of the lower northern, central, eastern, and southern regions, urging residents to watch out for thunderstorms, strong gusts, heavy downpours, and accumulated rain that may cause sudden floods and flash floods, especially on hillsides near streams and in low‑lying areas. It further urged volunteers in the at‑risk areas to keep a close watch on landslide and flash flood developments, prepare for possible geohazard incidents, and have officials quickly inspect any incident site to reassure the public and give initial guidance.
