Thailand Women's Coach Regrets Missed Goals in Vietnam Draw

Coach Alfred Nettipong Sritonginthorn, head coach of the Thai women's football team, expressed regret that his players had multiple clear scoring chances but failed to convert them before drawing 0-0 with Vietnam. Thailand's women's team played their final group-stage match of the 2026 Asian Games in Group E against Vietnam, needing a win to advance to the quarter-finals, but the goalless draw left them finishing fourth in the group with one point—equal to Vietnam but with a worse goal difference—and eliminated from the tournament.

Coach Alfred Nettipong Sritonginthorn said after the match: "It's always difficult playing against Vietnam, one of the teams we regularly compete with. The match is usually very evenly contested in terms of playing style and quality. Today they played without much pressure."

"I don't use excuses like saying we were unlucky. There is no such thing as bad luck. We played reasonably well, but we just couldn't score. It comes down to finishing purely. We had several chances—very clear chances—but we couldn't finish them. That's all it is. That's football."

"As for experience, as I mentioned, we had a great opportunity to play against Japan, so we learned a lot and gathered valuable data on what we need to do to improve. After that we faced two more teams ranked higher than us in the world, and we performed quite well. We conceded a goal to Taiwan late in the match from an excellent shot. So for me it was very good experience and we performed well after the Japan match. Overall, I'd say it was acceptable for us."

Thailand's women's team will return immediately, arriving at Suvarnabhumi International Airport on September 22 at approximately 21:30.
