The Thai Meteorological Department has issued warnings for heavy downpours affecting 41 provinces, with Bangkok and surrounding areas expecting rainfall covering 40% of the area. The southern region faces particular risk of sudden flooding. On May 11, 2025, the department forecasts hot conditions in northern Thailand during midday with continued thunderstorms and strong gusts in some areas, caused by weakening high-pressure systems and cold air masses from China over the Northeast and South China Sea. Meanwhile, southerly and southeasterly winds are bringing moisture from the Gulf of Thailand and South China Sea into northern Thailand. Residents are advised to avoid open areas, large trees, buildings, and weak structures, and to be cautious of heavy rainfall and accumulated water that could cause flash floods and landslides, especially in hilly areas near water sources and low-lying regions. Farmers should reinforce fruit trees and prepare to protect crops and livestock from potential damage, while also maintaining health during weather changes. Southern Thailand will experience increased rainfall with heavy downpours in some areas from May 11-12 due to strengthening easterly winds. The Gulf of Thailand will see waves approximately 1 meter high, exceeding 2 meters in thunderstorm areas. The northern region experiences hot midday temperatures with 60% thunderstorm coverage and strong winds, mainly in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Lampun, Lamphang, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, and Tak provinces, with lows of 22-25°C and highs of 32-38°C. The Northeast has 20% thunderstorm coverage in areas like Loei, Nong Bua Lamphu, Chaiyaphum, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket, and Ubon Ratchathani, with lows of 23-27°C and highs of 35-37°C. The Central region experiences 40% thunderstorm coverage with strong winds in Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Suphan Buri, Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon, and Samut Songkhram, with lows of 25-27°C and highs of 37-38°C. The Eastern region has 40% thunderstorm coverage in Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat, with lows of 24-25°C and highs of 34-38°C, and 1-meter waves exceeding 2 meters in thunderstorm areas. The southern region (east coast) experiences 60% thunderstorm coverage with heavy rainfall in Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat, with lows of 24-27°C.
