Veteran host Toy Traiphop, a fixture in Thai entertainment for four decades, opened up about a major career pivot — shifting to online platforms and declaring the golden age of television will never return. 'If the world changes and you don't, you're crazy,' he said bluntly.
The interview on One31's 'Khui Saeb Show,' hosted by DJ Phut Phutthichai and Peck Sri-thanya, came after an internal company document leaked, fueling headlines that 'Toy Traiphop Limpath' was closing his company and laying off every department.
Asked about his reaction when the letter surfaced, Toy explained: 'It was just an internal meeting — preliminary discussions and sample proposals. We never intended it to go public. Once it leaked, it created a total misunderstanding.'
He clarified that the company isn't shutting down. Rather, two of the group's original firms — Born & Associated Co., Ltd. and Born Operation Co., Ltd. — are halting new hiring. These entities employ staff who have been with the group for decades, some over 40 years. The oldest employee, not counting Toy himself, is nearly 70, as the company has no mandatory retirement age.
'They've been with us for so long, they're like a tight-knit fleet,' Toy said. 'I see myself as the captain. When the seas get this rough, my job is to make sure the crew reaches shore as smoothly as possible.'
The solution: cease employment contracts now so staff receive full legal severance — up to 400 days' pay. 'At their age and salary levels, that's life-changing money. Several will walk away with millions. They're not upset; they're happy.' Toy added that if the group restructures successfully, he'd welcome them back.
On the leak, Toy said he knows who photographed the document and shared it with friends, who then passed it to media. 'No malice intended — just a friend sharing news with friends. I'm not angry at all.' He had planned a formal announcement in early to mid-December, but the leak forced his hand.
'This era demands adaptation,' Toy concluded. 'We're moving to online platforms. That's the only way forward.'
