Ugandan Boxer Rejects Political Salary to Chase Muay Thai Title
Ugandan fighter Award Kazemba turned down a nearly 2 million‑baht‑per‑month political position to pursue a Muay Thai career in Thailand. He will challenge Russian Kiril Komutov for the interim Rajadamnern 147‑pound title at RWS Knocktoberfest on October 10, aiming to become the first Ugandan to win a Rajadamnern championship. Award says his goal is to raise Muay Thai’s global profile.
Award Kazemba said he rejected an offer of almost 2 million baht a month for a government job in Uganda to become a full‑time Muay Thai fighter, insisting he wants to take Thai boxing to the world stage. Before taking up Muay Thai, he was a 400‑meter sprinter with a personal best of 46.88 seconds. He now aims to make his mark at Rajadamnern Stadium. His upcoming bout for the interim Rajadamnern 147‑pound title against Russian challenger Kiril Komutov at the RWS Knocktoberfest on October 10 could make him the first Ugandan ever to win a Rajadamnern belt. Award sees the fight as the crucial test of his decision to forego the political salary and follow his dream of spreading Muay Thai internationally.
