A heartbreaking scene unfolded as a Rottweiler named Dam lay beside the body of its owner after he drowned in floodwaters over three meters deep in a rice field. The 57-year-old man, identified as Apai, had been missing for ten days before rescue teams found his body on October 7 at 1:30 p.m. in Prachin Buri’s Prachantakham district. Police Lieutenant Wachai Bunna of the Prachantakham Police Station said volunteers from the Sawang Bampen Thammasathan and Ruam Katanyu foundations located the corpse behind Wat Ko Daeng, surrounded by aquatic weeds, and brought it ashore to the temple hall where relatives awaited, grieving.
Nitaya, a friend and colleague in the dead man’s scrap‑dealing business, said they had parted ways after work on September 28 and that Apai never returned home. Worried he had been swept away by the flood, she alerted rescue crews, who eventually located his body in the flooded field.
Tosapol Phithakratch, a volunteer with the Sawang Bampen Thammasathan foundation, recalled receiving a request from relatives to search for the missing man. He and teammates from the Ruam Katanyu foundation took a boat into the deep water of the rice paddies and, after about an hour, spotted something unusual among floating grass. Closer inspection revealed the man’s body covered in weeds.
A reporter added that the atmosphere at Wat Ko Daeng was sombre, with over fifty villagers and onlookers present as Dam, the owner’s mixed‑breed Thai Rottweiler, walked over and lay down beside the corpse, which rescuers had wrapped in a white sheet and placed on the temple floor, awaiting the family to take it for the cremation ceremony.
