Police responded at 8:10 p.m. on August 10 to a vehicle collision on the Pa Phut-Saen Tao Bridge in Kamphaeng Phet province's Kanu Wor Lak subdistrict. Officers found a silver Mitsubishi Titan pickup truck with registration number GB 5832 severely damaged on the front and sides. The driver, 45-year-old Supat from Pang Ma Ka subdistrict, was at the scene appearing intoxicated and incoherent.

On the other side of the bridge, a gray Nissan Navara pickup with registration BP 8830 from Phichit province had also been hit by Supat's truck near a convenience store. The collision then continued as Supat's vehicle crossed the bridge and struck a Honda Wave 110i motorcycle driven by a 14-year-old girl from Khong Phai subdistrict, who died at the scene with her left arm severed. A 19-year-old male passenger on the motorcycle was taken to hospital but later died. A second male victim also perished, bringing the death toll to two.

Closed-circuit footage revealed that Supat had left a village chief celebration dinner at 8:06 p.m. and was driving back across the bridge when he encountered the two teenagers on their motorcycle at a convenience store junction. The youths were preparing to board a vehicle for a study trip to Suphan Buri province. Supat's truck veered back, hit the motorcycle, and accelerated up the bridge, crashing into the teenagers before losing control and striking an electrical pole. The truck nearly hit a noodle shop but fortunately no customers were standing outside at the time.

Footage shows officers initially did not realize Supat had hit the motorcyclists on the bridge until a following vehicle informed them. Social media has erupted with criticism questioning whether local politicians attempted to suppress the incident. The provincial governor has ordered an immediate severe disciplinary investigation and demanded Supat's resignation from his position as village chief.

Amulet Shop Owner Admits Error in Gold Coin Transaction

A Ko Lanta amulet shop owner admitted a staff member accidentally left a valuable gold coin in a testing machine, which he resolved by purchasing the amulets for 9 million baht rather than a legal settlement as social media claimed.

Amulet Shop Owner Admits Error in Gold Coin Transaction

Pon Tha Phra Chan has gone live to clarify a dispute involving a gold amulet coin that has become a point of contention in the amulet collecting community. Social media pages had accused him of swapping amulets, claiming the amulet's owner later discovered the issue and settled the matter for 9 million baht in exchange for not filing charges.

According to Pon Tha Phra Chan, on his birthday around August 5, a customer brought in a large number of amulets for inspection. His staff assisted in checking them. The disputed gold amulet coin was left inside a gold percentage testing machine by a staff member—an error he acknowledged immediately. Upon learning of the mistake, he suspended the employee and contacted the customer to resolve the issue at once.

He expressed shock and regret at the incident, noting the employee had worked with him for 10 to 15 years. When arranging to return the amulets, the customer asked what price he would offer to purchase them, leading to a negotiated sale at 9 million baht—not a settlement to avoid legal action as social media claimed.

Regarding a separate amulet set priced at 2.5 million baht, he acknowledged he could not accurately count the pieces in the set that day because nearly 200 customers visited the shop simultaneously, preventing thorough service.

Pon Tha Phra Chan released an audio clip of his conversation with the amulet's owner, in which the customer stated he held no grudge, had no intention to file charges, understood it was a mistake, and that the matter was resolved amicably. He expressed puzzlement over why the story spread on social media.

He further suggested that the incident may have been publicized by a third party who lost a business opportunity, possibly with intent to damage his reputation.

On August 12, 2025, Chaleuang Rieowraeng, 71, a suspect in the fatal shooting of Thongchai Yenprasoet, the Nonthaburi provincial administrator, was brought before Nonthaburi Provincial Court for the first remand hearing (Case No. Black 823/2569). Investigators charged him with multiple offences including intentional murder, attempted murder, unlicensed possession of a firearm in public places, and unlawful discharge of a firearm in populated areas, violating the Criminal Code sections 32, 33, 80, 91, 288, 371, 376 and the Firearms Act of 1947. The court denied his bail application, citing the gravity of the charges and serious risk of flight or further harm, and ordered him remanded in custody pending trial.

Chaleuang arrived at Nonthaburi provincial prison on August 11 and completed intake procedures before entering a five-day Covid-19 quarantine facility. On his first night, staff confirmed he adjusted well and ate normally, including evening dishes of jungle curry with bamboo shoots, rice, and boiled eggs. Prison authorities stated that his care, meals, and facilities met the same standard as all other detainees, with no special privileges or differential treatment. He was not previously a guard, so his status had no bearing on his treatment.

Health screening revealed slightly elevated blood pressure, for which he brought prescribed medication. Medical staff provided appropriate care and he underwent an initial mental health assessment. Psychologically, Chaleuang showed no distress about his charges but reported minor sleep difficulties because he normally slept during the day, making nighttime rest challenging. He was given sleeping medication as needed. Staff found no signs of self-harm risk, and he can request counseling from prison mental health personnel if needed.

Survey: 84% of Thais Back Illegal Gun Crackdown

Over 84% of Thais support the Royal Thai Police's illegal firearm crackdown, with a nationwide survey showing citizens prioritize visible patrols and rapid response over enforcement alone.

Survey: 84% of Thais Back Illegal Gun Crackdown
6d ago Khaosod

A SuperPoll survey released August 12 shows that 84.14 percent of Thai citizens back the Royal Thai Police's illegal firearm crackdown as a way to restore public confidence. The poll, conducted August 10-11 among 1,045 respondents across all professions nationwide at 95 percent confidence with a 3 percent margin of error, found strong public support for the police's preventive and emergency-response measures under National Police Chief General Kittarat Pancharoen.

The survey indicates that during a period of public concern over gun violence, citizens hold a positive view of the police's multiple approaches—prevention, rapid response, firearm seizures, and weapons control. Rather than endorsing crackdowns alone, the data reflects public expectation that safety policy should shift from reactive to proactive prevention.

Citizens place highest value on visible police presence in public spaces, rapid response times, and the ability to mitigate risk before loss of life occurs. When asked which measures they most support, 84.14 percent backed increased police patrols at schools, malls, hospitals, markets, and public areas—the highest rating. Close behind were rapid response and containment at 82.41 percent, nationwide illegal firearm seizure at 80.69 percent, online weapon trafficking crackdowns at 78.97 percent, and better oversight of government-issued firearms also at 78.97 percent.

The survey highlights that public perception focuses not just on arrest numbers but on the state's ability to create an environment where citizens feel protected and help arrives quickly. Increased patrols at schools and hospitals serve a dual purpose: physical deterrence and psychological reassurance. All five measured approaches received support between 79 and 84 percent, with only a 5.17 percent spread, suggesting citizens back a multipronged strategy rather than any single measure.

When asked about confidence in the police's gun control measures under General Kittarat, citizens showed highest faith in preventive action at 80.18 percent, followed by rapid response at 78.97 percent, safety assurance at 78.96 percent, and serious law enforcement at 74.52 percent.

Anutin Orders Politicians to Stop Carrying Guns

Anutin Orders Politicians to Stop Carrying Guns
6d ago Khaosod

Bangkok — Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said on Wednesday that politicians should not carry firearms, stressing that public figures must set an example by complying with the law.

Speaking to reporters at Sanam Luang on August 12, Anutin was asked about his instruction at a Bhumjaithai Party MPs' meeting that lawmakers must not carry guns.

"It's not just an order to MPs. No one can carry a gun now because there are no longer any valid gun-carrying permits in Thailand. All gun-carrying permits have expired, so firearms cannot be carried," he said.

Asked about several party members who own firearms as part of their collections, Anutin said gun ownership was a separate matter, provided it had been declared in their asset accounts.

However, he stressed that politicians and anyone seeking elected or political office must be particularly careful.

"If firearms are found during a search and they are being possessed illegally, that is a violation of the law. Once the law has been broken, it could also be interpreted as an ethical issue," Anutin said.

He warned that such cases could potentially affect a politician's future, including eligibility to stand for election or hold political office, depending on how the matter is interpreted under ethics rules.

"As public figures, we have to set an example. When the law says firearms cannot be carried, people who represent the Thai people and are chosen by the public must set an example. There is nothing complicated about it. We are simply following the law," he said.

Gun purchases also suspended

Asked whether the Cabinet resolution on August 11 to suspend the issuance of Por.3 documents meant people could no longer buy firearms, Anutin replied: "Yes, until there is an order to change it."

He said the government needed to bring firearms ownership under control, noting that Thailand has tens of millions of guns despite having a population of around 70 million.

"This is not sustainable," he said.

Anutin clarifies remarks on shooting home intruders

Anutin was also asked about controversy over his earlier remarks that people should not shoot intruders inside their homes, which had led to what he described as misunderstanding.

"There is no misunderstanding," he said, explaining that his main message was that people should recognise the dangers of firearms.

"Firearms are of no benefit to anyone. Whenever a gun is used, whether in an unavoidable situation or for whatever reason, the matter has to be determined in court. You cannot determine it yourself, and the police cannot determine it either," he said.

He explained that if someone shoots another person who allegedly poses a threat, the shooter could still face charges before a court determines whether the use of force amounted to legitimate self-defence.

"I may have communicated it a little too briefly," Anutin said. "But my intention was that I do not want people to be around firearms because they have never done an"

Luang Por Nueng Kovito, an esteemed scholar-monk of the Mae Klong lineage at Chula Mani Temple in Ampawa District, Samut Songkhram Province, was a principal disciple of several celebrated masters including Luang Por Kong of Bang Kaphom Temple, Luang Por Chaem of Chula Mani Temple, and Luang Pu Chai of Sedet Temple. Born as Nueng Thao Suwanno on February 14, 1909, he was ordained at age 23 on July 29, 1932, at Bang Kaphom Temple under Luang Por Kong as preceptor. He earned the highest rank in Buddhist scriptural studies in 1936 and became renowned for his expertise in meditation and esoteric Buddhist disciplines. He studied under the great masters of Samut Songkhram, most notably Luang Por Kong, who was credited with creating the popular amulet series known as the "Five Sets of Coins." He gained ecclesiastical rank as Phra Kru Sanyabat Third Class in 1933 and was promoted to Second Class in 1974. Chula Mani Temple, originally called Wat Mae Jao Thip, was believed to have been built between 1629–1647 during the reign of King Prasat Thong and holds historical significance related to the Chakri Dynasty. The temple fell into disrepair over time until Luang Por Nueng oversaw its restoration, including the construction of a magnificent four-sided marble ordination hall measuring 40 by 80 meters at a cost of tens of millions of baht. The cornerstone was laid on August 15, 1968, by the Supreme Patriarch. Luang Por Nueng passed away peacefully on November 27, 1987, at age 78 and 56 years into his monastic life. His amulets and sacred objects, including a notable casting created in 1984 called the "water-blessing amulet," became highly sought after by devotees. This particular image was cast in 1984 by master craftsman Hong Mani at a foundry in the Tha Phra Thonburi area of Bangkok, standing approximately 6.8 to 7.8 kilograms and assembled from three separate pieces.
