A teacher known as Khru Saai filed complaints with the Medical Council and Health Service Support Department (HSSD), alleging that an internist at a prominent private hospital misdiagnosed her husband's condition, resulting in his death. She also requested an investigation by the Nursing Council into the nurses involved in the case.
On July 22, 2025, at the HSSD office under the Ministry of Public Health, Maj. Dr. Thanakrit Jittrareeyarattana, secretary to the deputy minister of Social Development and Human Security, accompanied Khru Saai (Ms. Benjapon Panpetch), a teacher and influencer from Ratchaburi Province, to file her complaint.
Khru Saai seeks a standards inspection of Sancamillo Hospital in Ban Po District, Ratchaburi Province, regarding her husband's treatment and death. She alleges that the hospital's internist made a misdiagnosis that led to her husband's death, and she submitted supporting documents with her complaint.
Dr. Puvadet Surakote, director of the HSSD, assigned Dr. Akam Praditsuwanna, deputy director of the HSSD, and Sarooj Yodpradist, director of the Legal Division, to receive the complaint. Dr. Akam expressed condolences to Khru Saai for the loss of her husband and assured her that the HSSD would ensure justice for the victim. He stated that the private hospital would be inspected again, with HSSD staff assigned to investigate the facts from all parties and serve as mediators to facilitate a fair resolution between the hospital and the victim.
Khru Saai thanked all parties for their assistance in investigating the facts, expressing confidence that justice would be served and that all matters would be resolved according to the law. She acknowledged the hospital's clarifications but stated she believes the truth will emerge. She noted that while her husband can no longer speak, she remains able to speak and is prepared to seek justice. She emphasized her presence throughout his treatment and her commitment to speaking on his behalf and caring for their family, expressing faith that her late husband is sending her strength. She concluded by asking for understanding as this is the day before his funeral, assuring that she will speak for him and care for their family's well-being to the best of her ability.
Maj. Dr. Thanakrit then accompanied Khru Saai to the Medical Council to file a complaint regarding the medical ethics of the treating physician. Gen. Dr. Itthaporn Kancharoen, secretary-general of the Medical Council, received the complaint.
Gen. Dr. Itthaporn stated that when a victim files a complaint in person, it provides more factual information. He explained that the Medical Council's investigation process includes both ethics review and inquiries, which are conducted thoroughly before information is forwarded to the Royal College of Physicians for further consideration.
Previously, the Medical Council had requested information from relevant agencies including the HSSD and the provincial health office, as well as from the private hospital. The next step will involve summoning all relevant parties for testimony. The Medical Council will then compile information from all parties and forward it to the Royal College of Physicians for review of the physician's diagnostic process to assess whether the treatment was conducted correctly.
