11-Year-Old's Stealing Habit Forces Family to Leave Village
An 11-year-old boy's repeated stealing from neighbors prompted village authorities in Chiang Mai to ask his family to leave their rental home, marking the second relocation due to the same behavior.
Village residents exasperated by 11-year-old's repeated theft; parents asked to relocate. An 11-year-old boy whose habit of stealing small items from neighbors has caused ongoing distress was the subject of a meeting on July 22, 2025 between village leaders, committee members from Baan Khwang Pao village (Groups 9 and 11) in tambon Ban Pae, Chom Thong district, Chiang Mai, and the boy's parents who are renting a house in the local lychee orchard community. The child's regular petty theft has troubled residents for some time, creating both irritation and concern. When apprehended, villagers declined to take legal action given his age. After discussions with the parents about resolving the problem, village authorities requested they vacate the rental property, and the landlord confirmed he would not renew their lease. The couple agreed to move but asked for time to gather their belongings and find new housing. This family previously lived in Hod district and was asked to leave that village for the same reason—their son's stealing habit—though residents there also declined to pursue charges. They subsequently moved to rent a house at Baan Khwang Pao, only to face relocation once again.
