Thai IP Registrations Surge to 53,794 in Eight Months
Thailand's intellectual property applications jumped 10.43% to 53,794 in the first eight months of 2025, with copyright filings surging 67% and trademarks leading overall volume at 40,360 requests.
In the first eight months of 2025 (January to August), Thailand recorded 53,794 applications for intellectual property protection—including trademarks, patents, petty patents, and design patents—representing a 10.43% increase from the same period in 2024, according to Oramon Saaptwittharam, Director of the Department of Intellectual Property. Overall IP registrations totaled 39,096 items across all categories, up 7.88% from 36,241 in the first eight months of 2024.
Copyright notifications saw the most dramatic growth, rising 67.11% to 14,811 filings in the first eight months of 2025, compared to 8,863 in the same period last year. Although copyright is automatically protected upon creation without registration, creators can voluntarily file notification with the department.
Trademarks led application volumes with 40,360 requests, up 12.05% year-on-year. The top five categories by number of applications were retail and marketing services (4,878 requests), health and medical products (4,784 requests), cleaning and beauty products (4,530 requests), electronic tools and equipment (3,645 requests), and plant-based food and flavoring products (3,160 requests). Trademark registrations reached 28,944, a 2.62% increase from the previous year's 28,204.
