Murder Investigation Stalled as Police Hunt for Suspect in Convenience Store Worker Death
Police are hunting for a suspect in the death of a convenience store worker found unclothed in a rented room in Udon Thani, with investigators focusing on CCTV footage and DNA evidence after ruling out robbery as the primary motive.
At 10:30 AM on September 17, Pattanawong Chanphon, superintendent of Muang Udon Thani Station, held a rushed meeting with other senior officers and investigators to accelerate the case into the death of a convenience store worker found unclothed in a rented room. Police ordered the swift collection of evidence, review of CCTV footage, and DNA samples from suspects to be compared against evidence from the crime scene.
Investigation of CCTV footage revealed three food delivery riders making deliveries to the room—two bringing fruit and one bringing fried pork—all received by the deceased herself. All three riders were questioned and provided DNA samples. Police also requested DNA samples from six other residents in the dormitory, suspecting the killer may have been familiar with the location and well acquainted with CCTV coverage gaps.
Regarding stolen property, cash and a mobile phone were found intact. Gold jewelry, necklaces, and rings had been pawned by the victim before the incident. Police are now treating the case primarily as murder rather than robbery-homicide, theorizing a struggle may have occurred before the suspect fled. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from surrounding areas to trace the suspect's escape route.
