Convenience Store Worker Found Dead in Mysterious Circumstances
A 24-year-old convenience store worker was found dead in her rented room in Udon Thani province on September 15 with electrical cords around her neck; police are investigating whether the death was self-inflicted or involves foul play.
Emergency services in Udon Thani province received a report on September 15 of a body found in a rented room on Ratchada Road in Ban Lieu subdistrict, Muang Udon Thani district. Officers and rescue units attended the scene and discovered Pattarwarin, 24, a convenience store employee, lying face down unclothed inside the room. An electrical cord connected to a three-pin plug and a fan cord were wrapped around her neck, and belongings throughout the room appeared scattered as if the space had been searched. Officers cordoned off the area to collect evidence.
According to coworkers, the victim last contacted them around 6 a.m. on September 14, later reporting she was unwell and unable to work her morning shift. After that, coworkers could not reach her. When she failed to show up for work on Tuesday, September 15, concerned colleagues visited her room around 3 p.m. and discovered she had died. They immediately alerted police.
Forensic officers from Udon Thani Hospital initially examined the body and scene, finding the circumstances unusual due to the electrical cord around her neck, and stated they could not yet determine whether the death was self-inflicted or involved a third party. An autopsy and detailed evidence examination are pending. Police are collecting physical evidence and examining closed-circuit footage of the surrounding area, and interviewing coworkers, the landlord, and close acquaintances to establish a timeline from Monday morning until the body was found.
The landlord reported that the victim had rented the room for about three months, lived normally, never missed rent, and had no history of problems. A friend named Tong said the victim had complained of exhaustion from work, family financial pressures, personal issues, and had a thyroid condition requiring regular hospital visits. The friend suggested she may have accumulated stress from work, finances, and personal matters, though this remains speculative. Another close friend tearfully recalled that before her death, they had planned a beach trip in April after receiving work bonuses, as Pim had never seen the sea and wanted to go with friends.
Police have not ruled out any line of investigation and are urgently examining evidence at the scene, reviewing security footage, and interviewing relevant persons, while awaiting detailed autopsy results to determine the true cause of death.
