Surakiart Sathirathai, president of Chulalongkorn University's Council, delivered a keynote speech at the China Economic and Social Forum 2026 with the theme "Improving the Global Governance System and Building a Community with a Shared Future of Humanity" organized by the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, in Hangzhou, China.
Sathirathai addressed the need to improve global governance systems to reflect an increasingly interconnected and interdependent world amid challenges from geopolitical competition, conflict, inequality, climate change, and artificial intelligence. He emphasized that no single country can solve global problems alone and proposed five key principles: shifting from power politics to cooperative security; creating inclusive, fair, and resilient globalization; developing governance mechanisms for shared global issues such as climate, cybersecurity, AI, health, oceans, and space; promoting genuine multilateralism based on equality and participation of all nations; and building shared responsibility, particularly for major powers to play larger roles commensurate with their capacity.
Sathirathai stressed that the future global system should be founded on cooperation, dialogue, mutual benefit, and civilizational learning to build a community with a shared future for humanity and pass on a world of peace, cooperation, and hope to future generations.
