The Thai Tourism Authority launched a push into the Norwegian market on September 8 with a Thailand Networking Trade & Media event at Oslo's Sommerro Hotel, convening 50 travel industry partners including tour operators, travel agents, online agencies, airlines, and media. The event updated participants on current conditions and introduced new Thai tourism products, with a focus on health and wellness tourism and lesser-known destinations ahead of 2027 preparations. Two prominent Nordic travel influencers—Merete Moen from Norway and Towe Ahlin from Sweden—shared their experiences and insights about Thailand, while the evening concluded with Thai cuisine prepared by celebrated chef Terje Ommundsen, reinforcing Thailand's appeal through culinary experience.
Norway remains a high-value market with steady international travel demand, though tourist behavior has shifted: travelers spend more time comparing options and book closer to departure dates. Converting interest in Thailand into actual bookings requires close collaboration among airlines, tour operators, travel agents, and local partners. Long-haul markets remain crucial to Thai tourism; in 2024 Thailand welcomed 10.8 million long-haul visitors, generating 685 billion baht in revenue, though growth has slowed in 2025 with 6.88 million visitors from January to August, down 1.44 percent.
Scandinavia remains a loyal and high-potential market for Thai tourism. Norway specifically delivered over 123,000 visitors in 2024, averaging 19-day stays and generating roughly 8.835 billion baht in revenue—an impressive 71,985 baht per visitor per trip—making it a premium-quality market worthy of continued investment.
