Abhisit Vejjajiva, Democrat Party list MP and party leader, expressed no concern over a complaint filed against the Subcommittee for Court Affairs, Independent Organizations, the Office of the Attorney General, state enterprises, public organizations and funds, and the House of Representatives regarding the appointment of Somchai Srisuthiyakorn, a former Election Commission member, as a subcommittee member. Somchai was deemed to lack the required qualifications after being removed from the Election Commission by a National Council for Peace and Order order under Section 44 of the 2557 Interim Constitution. A complaint has been filed against 25 people connected to the subcommittee.
Abhisit stated he has no concerns about the legal proceedings and affirmed his innocence, noting that meeting minutes clearly show a qualification verification order that he himself proposed in the first committee meeting to ensure proper vetting and approval of all subcommittee members' qualifications. He emphasized that detailed meeting records serve as clear evidence of their intentions.
Abhisit further noted that Somchai had successfully registered as a candidate in two previous elections, suggesting that if he truly lacked the qualifications being alleged, he would not have been allowed to run in the first place. Regarding those who filed the complaint, Abhisit believed they were likely a group with conflicts of interest against Somchai.
