Actor Kao Gets Fit for New Drama Roles
2d ago Khaosod

Hot young actor Kao Nopkao recently appeared in an 80-hour live-streaming marathon for NUUI Starathon 8.8, where he promoted products as a long-time brand presenter. The actor has now shared details about what's keeping him so busy.

"I've wrapped one drama and I'm currently filming another called Roskarn," Kao said. "The other two projects I'm working on with senior actresses Yaya and Gluff are very different and much more challenging than anything I've done before. These two roles really push me. I have to get tattoos and prepare extensively, and the scenes require me to go shirtless, so I'm doing my best within my limits."

Given his tight schedule and demanding work calendar, Kao says he makes time to work out, especially for these roles. "Fitness is already part of my lifestyle, so I'm training specifically for these dramas," he explained. When asked about on-screen chemistry with Gluff leading to dating rumors, Kao clarified: "We're siblings in the show. I've done a lot of preparation because I've never had a real sibling, so it's elder Kao and younger Gluff. Our lifestyles match that dynamic. It'll air soon."

For his birthday next month, Kao plans to organize a merit-making project with his fans, something he does every year. "I'm thinking of donating to underprivileged children this year instead of a temple like I usually do," he said. "I want to collect used items with help from many fans. Follow my X account for details. Anyone who wants to join the merit-making or meet up should get ready for September 5, though we'll probably hold the actual event on September 5."

Emirati men flee Phuket police checkpointLegacyTwo foreign nationals have been arrested in Phuket after allegedly fleeing a police checkpoint, kicking an officer’s motorcycle, and causing the officer to crash during a pursuit through Kathu district. The chase began at around 1pm on August 13 at the Si Kor checkpoint on Phra Barami Road. Police said a black Honda ADV 160 carrying two men was travelling from Patong towards the Si Kor intersection when officers signalled the rider to stop for a licence check. The rider allegedly accelerated through the checkpoint instead. Police Sergeant Major Siwayot Yodrabam followed the motorcycle towards Phra Phuket Kaew Road. Near Kathu Municipality, officers again ordered the pair to stop, but the passenger allegedly kicked Siwayot’s motorcycle with his left foot, unbalancing it. The pursuit continued towards a duty-free store, where the suspects allegedly rode against oncoming traffic before turning into a side street. They then reportedly cut in front of the pursuing police motorcycle, causing Siwayot to crash. He suffered injuries, and his clothing, glasses and motorcycle were damaged. Siwayot continued the chase until the suspects abandoned their motorcycle and fled on foot. Police searched the surrounding area and later found both men walking nearby. They were identified as a 21 year old Emirati national, Sohaill, who had allegedly been riding the motorcycle, and a 20 year old Emirati national, Hamad Saif Rashed, the passenger. Police informed both men of the allegations and their legal rights before taking them, along with the motorcycle, to Kathu Police Station, where they were handed to investigators for further legal proceedings. At Noen Yang Pracha Samakkhom School in Kalasin on August 16, Yodsanan Wongsawat, a Pheu Thai list MP, along with party colleagues and Nathawut Saiyakuea, took the stage to campaign for Chelomkwan Lortrakul, candidate number one for Kalasin Provincial Governor under the Pheu Thai banner.

Nathawut recalled that in 2022 he had helped campaign for Chelomkwan, who was elected governor. He then drew an analogy, saying a provincial governor should be like a pearl—something precious and beautiful—not a container left empty. He characterized Chelomkwan as a lifelong party member, tracing her lineage back through the Thai Rak Thai era and her father, former governor Yongyuth Lortrakul, and stressed that the party must rally behind its loyal members.

Nathawut emphasized that he had remained steadfast in his party allegiance through political upheaval, and urged Kalasin residents to stick with Chelomkwan. He noted that he recently attended a funeral in Ubon with former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who sent his regards to Kalasin and expressed hope to visit in the future.

Party member Yodsanan Wongsawat echoed the sentiment, saying that while the past few months had brought major changes, his commitment to Kalasin had never wavered. He stressed that the most important thing was for Kalasin to win and to elect a governor who understands grassroots problems, can work continuously, and can coordinate across all groups. He added that people cannot wait, and the elected governor must hit the ground running with clear policies on day one.

Tata Steel Backs EAF Technology to Raise Thai Steel Standards

Tata Steel Thailand commits to electric arc furnace technology to improve steel quality and reduce emissions, positioning the choice as essential for building safety and environmental sustainability rather than cost alone.

Tata Steel Backs EAF Technology to Raise Thai Steel Standards
2d ago Khaosod

Major steel producer Tata Steel has announced its commitment to electric arc furnace (EAF) technology as a long-term direction for steel production, aiming to elevate the quality and safety standards of Thailand's steel industry. Chief Executive Anurak Panday of Tata Steel Thailand, a leading manufacturer of long steel products, revealed the company's position to adopt EAF technology as its long-term steel production direction.

The company recognizes that different steel production technologies have varying suitability depending on market and application needs. Although induction furnace (IF) technology is still used in some markets, the company has chosen EAF as part of its long-term technological direction. Currently, the company continues to invest in EAF technology in both India and Europe, demonstrating its commitment to improving steel quality, enhancing production process control efficiency, reducing carbon emissions, and aligning with global steel industry trends.

Panday believes that technology selection should not be based solely on production costs or investment amounts, but must also consider the quality, consistency, and environmental efficiency of steel delivered to customers and society. This is especially important for steel used in buildings and infrastructure, where material quality and consistency are critical to structural reliability and safety.

"We affirm our long-term commitment to supporting Thailand in achieving higher steel quality standards, stronger production process control, and more sustainable steel production," Panday stated. He emphasized that the company's responsibility extends beyond producing steel for today but includes contributing to building the steel industry Thailand needs for the future, with technology serving as a driving force for the industry to advance in quality, sustainability, and safety simultaneously.

A report notes that on August 17, attention should be paid to a public hearing on new steel standards, where steel from IF furnaces has been flagged as having limitations in steel quality and safety.

Super El Niño Drought Devastates Korat Rice Farmers

A 67-year-old rice farmer in Nakhon Ratchasima has replanted her crop three times as Super El Niño drought depletes water sources, leaving her struggling to produce even enough rice to feed her family.

Super El Niño Drought Devastates Korat Rice Farmers
2d ago Khaosod

NAKHON RATCHASIMA — A 67-year-old rice farmer in Sikhiu district has been severely affected by drought linked to Super El Niño, forcing her to sow rice twice and replant by hand in hopes that some of the crop will survive.

Muay Singkhon, a farmer from Ban Huai Takaeng Tai in Nong Bua Noi subdistrict, Sikhiu district, said a prolonged dry spell had left local water sources running low, making it impossible to pump enough water into her rice fields.

"I planted jasmine rice on seven rai, but the drought caused almost all of the rice seeds not to germinate. Only small patches have sprouted," she said.

Rain has been scarce in the area for nearly a month, with only occasional light showers that are not enough to thoroughly soak the soil. Muay said she had also seen little benefit from the government's artificial rainmaking efforts, as no significant rain had reached her fields.

She has now been forced to manually sow rice seeds in empty patches after planting twice already.

"The lack of water caused the seeds to dry out and become shriveled, so they could not grow. I don't know what else to do," she said.

Muay had hoped to harvest enough rice this year both for her family to eat and to sell, but the severe drought has caused significant damage despite the fact that it is the planting season.

"At this point, I just hope to get enough rice to eat," she said, adding that she had planned to pump water from a natural canal into her fields, but the water level had fallen too low for pumping.

Muay called on the government to increase artificial rainmaking operations and help reduce the cost of agricultural inputs.

"The prices of herbicides and fertilizer are still very high. I want the government to lower them further. Farmers are already struggling with high production costs," she said.

Police Say Suspect Still Silent as Others Face Charges
2d ago Khaosod

Police have revealed that a suspect known as 'Pa Da' remains uncontactable, while other people involved in the incident face potential charges for unlawful assembly if they do not come forward. On August 16, Deputy Superintendent Yoswat Kaewsubthanit of Muang Khon Kaen Police Station disclosed that investigators had issued a summons to Chommani Noijuntan, also known as Da, 62 years old, on charges of unlawful assembly, with the first hearing scheduled for August 27. However, there has been no contact from the suspect.

Several witnesses have already completed their statements, including a cement truck driver, driver's assistant, and a building material shop owner who sold pipes and cement. Investigators are still seeking two van drivers and passengers believed to reside in Bangkok, for whom summonses have also been issued.

Deputy Superintendent Yoswat further stated that any other individuals involved in the incident, whether or not they have been summoned, should come forward to give statements to investigators. Those who fail to do so will be considered accomplices and charged with unlawful assembly alongside the main suspects.

Regarding a separate matter involving the issuance of replacement land title deeds at Khon Kaen Provincial Land Office, police are receiving reports after a temple submitted objections with the original deed. Officers have not yet received a formal complaint from the land official, but will proceed with the case once a complaint is filed.

New Platform Gives Tom Community Space to Shine

Tom Thailand 2026 pageant creators Lek Bunnada Tipphipal and Nan Wilailaksana Sirisak built a platform to help the tom community overcome social fears and showcase talents, with roughly 80 percent of contestants previously hidden on social

New Platform Gives Tom Community Space to Shine
2d ago Khaosod

An exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the organizers of The Tom Thailand 2026 pageant, copyright holder Lek Bunnada Tipphipal and pageant director Nan Wilailaksana Sirisak, reveals the vision and effort behind creating a stage for Thailand's tom community to overcome fear and showcase their talents to the world. The founders share their dedicated work experience, generous budgets from the outset, and recruitment of top-tier mentors to help contestants develop sustainable careers.

Lek explained the pageant's origin and purpose, saying inspiration came after attending a competition and questioning why there was no stage specifically for the LGBTQ+ community, particularly toms, despite recognizing their high potential in music, performance, and business. Nan added that roughly 80 percent of contestants typically remain hidden, too afraid to reveal their identity or abilities on social media, so the pageant was created as a "stage of opportunity" to help them overcome that fear.

Lek runs private businesses including a costume rental shop, Chinese goods import, and a beauty line. Nan has spent over 20 years in the nightlife entertainment industry, previously opening a tom bar and hosting parties, bringing experience in nurturing talent and giving young people stage opportunities that now extends to daytime society.

When asked about investment and preparation, Lek revealed the budget spiraled far beyond the initial 2 million baht estimate, running out within three days of actual work. However, neither organizer is concerned about profit in the first season, prioritizing quality instead. Nan noted they share the philosophy of creating value and not disappointing contestants. The pageant organized free workshops for over 200 contestants, teaching skills, languages, and inviting TikTok teams to teach income-generation strategies, ensuring every participant leaves with knowledge, professional skills, and lasting opportunities regardless of placement.

Regarding selection and coach roles, Lek emphasized choosing mentors based on their philosophy, discipline, and exemplary character. Pa Tob and Pi New represent stable family values and lasting love, using psychological methods to transform behavior and unlock potential. Gaeng Thachaya brings energy and positive mindset, Wim Piyanun embodies natural expression and challenges stereotypes about tom presentation, and Pom Winicha uses sharp insight to identify and highlight each contestant's hidden strengths.

The organizers originally planned to judge the final round themselves but decided to step back and invite professional external judges including singers, vocal and dance instructors, and celebrities to ensure transparency and ease the emotional burden. Both Lek and Nan expressed surprise at the results, noting that initial skepticism has transformed into widespread public support, with viral content generating 25 million total views.
